$100 EDF Semi Scratch Anything Goes! Contest
#27

That's good! it will be nice to get the thing built after all that time gathering dust. I'm sure i have a fan for it somewhere too. It will need a bit of 'kit bashing' as the design was made for NiCad batteries and speed 480 brushed motor, so the fan will have to be moved back to get a good CG with LiPos, and I would want to add a working rudder where the plan shows fixed.
I'll start a thread in a week as I'm away from home for the next few days.

It just so happens I have a couple of 30mm EDF in the draw..........
Did think about a Lightning but I suspect a Canberra would be a better bet. Shorter ducts and more wing area.
Put me down although I won't be able to start for a couple of months.
Are there any extra marks if I do the whole thing for $100!

Thanks for joining in, ummm, Mr. Idiot, sir...
Your screen name makes this really awkward, you know! In any case, your project is very un-idiot-like, so your reputation is safe! Will watch it's progress, as I love the unique planes. Best of luck!

Well, as embarrassed as I am to say this, weather had nothing to do with my failure to start. I haven't cut a piece of foam yet... I'd list my excuses of real life, but we all have real life to deal with so it's no excuse. At this point, I think my chances of getting remotely close to getting my plane done in time are zilch. But even if I don't make the contest deadline I intend to build it.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate for everyone else. You guys (and gal!) have and are making some really cool planes. Maybe if it would start snowing in San Diego I'd get a real start!

As it looks like I should get it finished in time can I add my 25" Vampire to the competition? (As well as the Canberra!)
Hopefully the weather will improve before the end date so I can get videos!

Seeing as this is a contest with no real prizes, I don't see why not. But I'm new to these and not familiar with precedent, or if there is any. Any input, anyone?

I would be quite willing to withdrawn one if its a problem.
It is just that the Canberra although unusual for an EDF is built in a similar way to my other Depron jets.
On the other hand the Vampire although quite often modelled will have a rather more unusual 'composite' Depron/balsa construction technique.

I've removed myself from the contestants since I've made practically zero progress, while others are building their 2nd entries! Spent too much time thinking about it and not just doing it, and now other priorities are popping up. I still intend to build it, I just won't be in time for this contest.
I'm still watching everyone's cool creations coming together. Enjoyed seeing McClarkson's Jetbat and Crispy's Batwing already flew. Biil G and Quorneng each have 2 in the mix now! And they are some cool subjects! Speaking of which, The Village Idiot's (I'll never get used to calling anyone that...) Beriev Ekranoplane is gonna be a cliff hangar to see how she flies! And of Course, there's Chellie's wing she's making with her home-brewed foam cutter. Good luck to all of you!

Well, one week to go in the contest. Looks like a possibility of an extension due to the weather. In the meantime, here's links to the videos of the ones that have flown so far.

Well one week won't help me.
Work has gotten really busy and I'm moving my Daughter to Omaha this weekend so I've fall way behind.
So good luck to the rest of you.
I'll be watching and living vicariously through your projects.

Sorry to hear it. I know how you feel. Better luck next time. I'll remove your entry from the first post here.
For the other participants, please let me know if you need that weather extension for the deadline.

I do at least have the video(s) for the Canberra 'in the bag' so to speak but at the moment the Vampire is grounded by the weather.
Gusty 12 mph today - a bit high for a 4oz plane maiden - rising to 24 mph over the weekend!!!
Does not look good.
But I am thinking about my next plane.......

As the Vampire is my second build and my first did fly quite successfully within the original time scale I think it would be unfair to the others to extend the dead line on my behalf.
So unless some one else needs the extra time to complete their first I am quite happy to accept the Vampire will disqualified by close on the 2nd for not achieving a maiden.
