WAA-08 has our own official website thanks to Walter (those guys in ID sure are helpful):

http://www.deserteaglesrcclub.com/WAA-08/waa-08.htm

I think it looks great. Easy to navigate and not too busy. What do you think?

Default Glad to see new pilots.

It is good to see that pilots have come on board who are only about 75 miles away! If we meet one at the Baker's Square restaurant in Buelton, and the other at Denny's, in Camarillo, or some pre-arranged site, the drive won't be too bad, for any of us. For us, that is only a little bigger round-trip than our club field.

That is good news and I hope to fill in some more gaps in other areas. I'm hoping the story in Model Aviation will also help fill in the gaps.

Speaking of news stories, I shot an email off to my local paper and to USA today to see if they would like to do a story on the WAA-08 adventure. Wouldn't that be cool if USA did a story on the project?

We have been getting some outstanding assistance by our WAA-08 pilots in providing help in their respective talents.

Here is a run down of what has transpired so far:

Steve built a beautiful custom travel box

Greg has spearheaded the Emergency funds and has set up a verified PayPal account in WAA-08's name and we already have donations coming in

Walter has built that web site for us as linked above which does look great and will be an excellent resource to document the adventure throughout the USA tour

Marc is almost ready to start taking pics and video and assemble these into a DVD of the entire journey with music included -that should be way cool

Warren is working on T-shirts and hats for us that we can order directly through him individually vs. someone buying a bulk order and hoping they sell.

I am extremely impressed with the folks involved in this project that have been willing to devote their time and talents to make this adventure successful. Hats off to you guys and thanks! I hope you realize this couldn't happen without your help. And of course, thank you to all the pilots involved as there wouldn't even be an adventure without you.

Believe it or not, my local paper has already responded. They said they are interested in running the story of WAA-08. All they needed was a photo of me. Wow, that was easy. I'm sure all 260 plus pilots can do the same thing when the plane gets to them. Just email them the generic press release tailored to you and bingo.

Maybe I should try the local TV station.

Hey guys,

My page should be up today, I plan on having a web based ftp for ease of use. Dont need anyone installing software on their personal computers. I will also make sure to create a tutorial on how to use it for anyone having trouble.

Every pilot will have his own directory (corresponding pilot number) each will have a video and picture directory and can upload from there.

I cannot imagine what you are trying to contribute to the Wings Across America event with your negative opinions. The plane is donated and ready to fly, the event starts in a week, 262 pilots are lined up and ready to go and discussions about the plane have been over for a month or two.

Some suggested using a commonplace, made in china, ugly foamy like the Mini Mag, but after much debate, it was decided a made in the US built up kit would be more fitting. The releasable motor mount, rubber banded landing gear and stout ply/balsa frame are state of the art in terms of crash tolerance.

Having used the SQuiRT on floats, as an AP plane, and as a trainer for kids, I can assure you it can cartwheel and lawn dart all day without major damage. I'd even go so far as to say it's tougher than foam, and if it needs a patch or two, at least it doesn't get uglier like smashed up glued together foam does.

Maybe you should start a across Australia tour. I'll be sure to help out.

-Steve

(BTW, the mini mag also has a flat bottom wing, which is quite common for trainers.)

Murph,

It showed up in the picture with my SQuiRT and some folks made mention of it so I have been including it with all my photos now.
