Exclamation They built a better idiot

Well, I've always said the cellpro line was the most idiot proof. But apparently I'm a better idiot.

I accidentally charged my 3s A123 as a 3S Lipo.

I've got 3 pre-sets on the 10s
1 lipo @ 1.C
2 lipo @ 1.C
1 A123 @ 3.C

Sometime in the past, I switched the 1 A123 @ 3C to actually being 1 lipo at 3.C and forgot to change it back resulting in todays experiment.

We'll see if the battery is okay. A123's are supposed to be pritty tough.

That one is amazingly easy to do, meaning I did it too, 2x actually.
Chances are the 123 will just bleed off the voltage, probably with no or very little harm.
The first time I grabbed it, rushed down to the field with my Funjet and set about using up the 'excess' voltage. My heart was pounding!

Did it to the same battery again (duh) and just left it in a concrete sink where I charge and watched it. It was 'normal' the next day. That battery continued to act fine until the day it tried to mate at somewhere around 200 G's with my Mega motor. It was an unfortunate pairing and neither were the richer or better for it.

Yeah, the battery seems fine. To bad the plane i'm using it in (UFO i got pictures in the scratch built thread) just doesn't seem to generate enough power. I think the motor on it is shot.

As a test a single A123 2300 mAh cell was charged to 4.3 volts and discharged to zero volts for 300 cycles and it was non the worse for wear.

Back when I flew A123s a lot (for two years) I often used the LiPoly setting of my chargers so that they would charge faster. A123s go from 3.65 to 4.2 so fast at 2c (10A) charge rates that they spend no time in the CV stage and are not damaged.
