Default Air Hogs Titan Conversion Aileron Questions

Hi all,

I just finished my first conversion of an air hogs titan to and EDF style foamy. I'm fairly new to RC, I've been flying for a couple years now. My conversion is Throttle/Elevator/Aileron and I'm seeing that my ailerons don't give me enough control. They're located on the inner wing, and I would like to either extend them, or put another small set of ailerons on the outside of the wing. How can I do this without putting servos further out on my wings? Should I get some long pushrods, or try and extend the current ailerons? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

I'd do one of a few things...

Remove the current ailerons, extend the cut to the ends of the wings, and replace with a firmer material, like balsa, or coroplast.

You could use foam, but I'd use a dowel at the leading edge of the aileron, so that it doesn't twist on you.

You could use the control rods to extend down the length of the wing to have more authority on the ailerons.

Okay thanks for the advice. I think I'll probably stick to foam, because I have it in abundance around the house. Would a wooden dowel do or should I switch to carbon fiber or something of that sort?

I've just used wood in the past. Usually just a square dowel from home depot or lowes, about the same thickness of the foam I was using.

Cutting 5-6" off each wing tip will help a lot, and it doesn't take away very much of the gliding capability. Also, removing some of the dihedral will increase the roll rate.

I've been trying to get creative with the mixing actually, I've got a DX6i. I haven't quite got it perfected but I'm close, and I think that would solve my problem without any need for reconstruction. Thanks for the suggestion!
