Default Alleycat- 64mm EDF trainer & fun airplane

"Alleycat" is really an all around plane to fly. What makes it a versatile is the 64 mm EDF and it's lightness. My EDF cost $10.

It will take off verticle(used a stick to hold it up), off a 45 degree table, will takeoff and land twice (due to the twin booms) on a grass runway and best of all, ends up a jet trainer in which I let club members fly it to get the "feel" of a EDF. It has excellent stability, hard to stall out,and lands gentle.
Main point, is that it is capable of teaching "taking off and landing" from a ground surface since there isn't a prop, hence no damage!!!!! It is my "goto" airplane when I want to relax, regardless of the wind speed.

Most EDF's get usually a 2-4 min flight. With proper throttle management, my longest flight has been over 9 min with a 1300 mah battery. Will actually fly on less than 1/3 throttle. Does a nice "high alpha"

The reason the alleycat's (offshoot of the bobcat) superb performance is the design and my angle for the EDF jet. Mine is set at 3 degrees up and 1 degree to the right!!

If you look at it from a vector diagram, there is always an EDF force component acting up and to the right which in flight gives this plane tremendous stability.

Will post video after just joining.

Default Videos of "alleycat"

Notice, it has excellent thrust/weight, it can slow fly, turn on a dime and not stall out. None of my alleycat models has rudder.

I always do a couple of runs to show that I can duplicate the exercise including figure 8's and deadstick.

Takeoff at 1/2 power, goes fast/slow, lands beautiful, what more do you want from an EDF?

I have also designed a number of planes using 64 mm EDF's from flying indoors to dropping a shuttle. Let me know if you would like to see them.
