Hey Ron,

Great work on the cowl. And I am tired of snow. We are getting more tonight.

I just noticed you used epoxy for the velcro. Did you let it dry first, to create an adhesion surface, or did you epoxy the velcro to the balsa? I've never seen that before.

Default Getting Closer!

Hello Glenn, Paul + Kev,
Thanks, I'm getting there! Paul, I've never tried the magnets on a cowl, just canopies and hatch. If I can get to the Hobby shop today I'll pick up some magnets and try it.
Kev, the epoxy is just to aid adhesion. The velcro won't stick to bare balsa or ply, too porous. A thin coat of epoxy works great, let it harden and it sticks like it does to the shrink wrap on batteries.
I cleared my car off, but it's parked in the alley and there's still several inches of snow + 50 feet of alley between me and the street!
Springtime in the Rockies, gotta love it!

Default wbpc

Ron!

Been watching your build from the start, GREAT JOB!!!!!!

I went up a few times in one these as a kid!! It caught on fire during a recover job, even the hanger was a total loss! I remember the magnesium prop hub was still burning days later, & it was buried!! (around 61 yrs. ago)

You turned me onto the wbpc in this thread! And I have used it to seal the pores in balsa & ply before appling the sticky back velcro or double back tape! Has worked great so far!!!!!

Waiting for the maiden!!!!!!!!

Default It's Coming Along!

Hi Jimmy,
Thanks for the kind words, I'm anxious to get this plane finished, but work and weather have kept me too busy.
The WBPU is great stuff, Grasshopper (Tom) first pointed me to it a couple of years ago. It's nearly replaced my "Old" model-finishing methods and now I've even used it to apply the Litespan to this model. Still have to work out a few kinks with the trim and overlaps, though.
I'll bet those flights in the Waco were a real memory, too bad about the fire, though.

Hi Ron,
The last snow pile that was in my yard melted yesterday.
Spring is here on the east coast.
I feel sorry for you.

Looking forward to more pictures.

Default More Snow?

Hi Paul,
The snow from last week has melted here, also. But yesterday we got a strange spring storm, tiny pellets of hail, then snow, freezing temperatures. Should clear up later today.
I have a 3-day weekend coming up, hope to get more work done on the Waco. Will be posting photos soon.
Regards,
Ron

Thanks for this thread Ron. Without it, I would have NO idea how to build this thing. Here's hoping for a nice plane!
