The 6" prop that E-Flite recommeds looks too small IMO. I use a 7x3 with a TowerPro 2210-21 motor of around 2000kv I think.

Hate to say this, but I'm not sure the E-F 300 outrunner would be a very good motor for this plane. To get any power out of a smaller 6-7" prop, you will need to use a 3 cell lipo, which would be heavy and wouldn't fit without significantly modifying the battery compartment. To use a 2 cell battery with that motor, you are going to have to put a cartoonishly big prop on it, probably 9"-10". Maybe you could try a higher pitch 7" or 8" prop as 7car7 suggests.

I thought you were use'in a 3-cell but 8/6 will be ok on her with a two-cell, a 9/6 would be better, the old girl swung a big prop anyhoo! bubsteve

Default First time out with the Jenny..

First off I would like to thank all of you folks for the very helpful info on taking this plane from the box to the air. This has been a very painless experience and this bi-plane is a fun, slow and stable platform.

The most important mods were to the rudder and elevator, beefing them up with some 1/32 fiberglass sheeting I had left over from a sub project. Running the wires stiffen up the wing and greatly reduced the flex in flight.

I failed to read into the warning about the carbon fiber tube engine mount. I got lucky the other day when my engine tore loose from the tube and suffered only minor damage to the plastic cowling. This was an easy repair with some plastic screen door material and acutually is an improvement and fuctional now.

Thanks again for the info and this board is first class...

After several months of flying my Jenny with the Park 300 IMHO it handles the Jenny beautifully. I do have to use a 9"x4.7 prop and in proportion to the airframe looks very nice. The slightly increased weight of the 300 plus servos used for ailerons does create the need to hold more airspeed when landing but that is no problem.

One of my modeling books shows the real Jenny used a 100 inch prop. Using both span and fuselage length of the Eflite Jenny I avaeraged the scale to be about 1/14. The model needs a 7 inch prop to be close to scale. I am flying on 2s, 1100 kv motor, 7x6 prop. At WOT the prop is turning 6500 rpm and the motor is pulling 5amps. The Jenny will fly on about half throtle.

degreen60,

A while back when you made a really cool float set for your Jenny and you posted a couple of pictures of real N-9H curtiss floatplanes. I am trying to make one of these a bit more scale-like with the rounded nose and extra bays in the wings.

Do you remember where you found these photos, or have any higher resolution copies? The only other photos of real N-9H I have found have squared off noses

Thanks,
Dave
