I want to design a band grinder like those used to make knives, using 1 x 30 belts. Need good speed control and enough motor power to grind down knife billets. Seems I might need large outrunner motor and gear drives. Any ideas to chase down motor candidates. ..

Just a thought ... when I did Metalwork at school ... teacher always said - let the tool do its work without forcing ......
So maybe the motor power is not as high as first imagined ? I have a 5050 450kv motor that swings 15 ... 16 ... 17" props and boy does that have some torque !! Also lets think about those battery hand drills ... many are still using brushed motors.
I have a hand belt sander sitting on the bench ... I wonder if a carborundum belt could be fitted instead of the sanding belt ?
Just thinking out loud ..
