e-flite taylorcraft

I wonder if another manufacture has something very close in quality / design to the Taylorcraft 450 at a more reasonable price?
I would be interested at the $109 mark. The extra $60 (in this economy) is not justifiable consider electronics will run you another $150.
Anyone know of something similar?

I had finally fixed all my receiver problems with this plane (Horizon replaced my AR7000) and was really enjoying the plane for the first time since this summer. I was flying my taylorcraft with small parkflyer skis taking off and landing from a landing strp made from a ski-doo trail. I had 2 mishaps and 2 crashes with this plane in 6 flights so far because the AR7000 receiver would reset itself all the time...
I started the afternoon with 2 smooth flights doing mild acrabatics and testing to see if my receiver problems were over. On the 3rd battery, I deceided to push the plane a little more and was doing fast rolls, figure 8's and tight loops. After 10 minutes of this, as I was doing a relatively fast loop, my right wing broke in 2 near the fuselage. The plane was going straight toward the ground spinning around itself
at the last second, I manage to stop the roll, slow the plane a little and hit the ground at a 45 degree angle in deep snow.... as the remaining of the wing was coming down slowly from 200' like a falling leaf.
Suprisingly (and luckily) the damages are minimal. The 200' fall in the snow only broke the window and one ski
. The wing was broken cleanly in half. The cause of the crash seems to be probable the screw from the strut coming off from under the landing gear. It had stripped before from a previous crash last summer and was probably not strong enough for the tight rolls I was doing....

What happened, did everyone get bored with the Taylor.I built my second one today.had one a while back, sold it,took a break from rc for 2 years and bought a new one yesterday.Powered with the EF 480 and Zippy 220 3s.
I get a kick out of that self adjusting motor, cant get any easier than that.I only had to make one small modification and that was on the wheel pants mount.I drilled another hole 5mm above the original pants mount which gave me me a little more bite when the screw goes into the pants.I cant wait to go fly and try out a few props.Probably start with the 12x6 and then 11x5.5 .Well i just thought i would revive this thread and say hi to all.I would post a pic,but i think yall know what it looks like LOL

I am interested in what AUW you have in your taylorcrafts. I fly it with a light weight motor about 120W max. paired with a 9 x 4.5 APC E prop. and a 1300 mAh 3s Lipo and it is still 850g (30 oz). I think it flies great on that setup, nearly 15 min. My guess is that the empty weight will vary between the kits. Any ideas about the AUW ?

That's the wrong panel for a 1986 Taylorcraft, see my build and review here, it shows the correct one.

Breathing a little life into this old thread... It inspired me to order a TC 450 ARF today. Going to stay with the 450 motor. Getting back into the hobby after 15 years or so and plan to fly the TC after I get some time on the Supercub LP foamy and more time on the sim. Seen a couple youtube videos of floats and would like to do that too at some point. Can't wait to start getting this together!
