Delta and Wing design Club
#1

Ok
A few of us have been following Chellies delta build thread and it gave
me an idea to start a informal club here on Wattflyer
It will be for people intrested in designing and building flat foam wings and deltas
We will not have a real formal format just flat foam builders intrested in sharing ideas and helping build and make design changes to others designs with the hopes of making it fly nice
What we will do is start with the design phase where folks put pen to paper and design a wing or delta the only rule is that we don't want exact copies of other designs there must be something different about it an extra fin something to make it look original
The idea is to keep it simple and quick to build so we don't invest too much time and money into it but still have fun
We'll anyway if your intrested leave a post

Not sure how much i could contribute on the design aspect but I would follow along. My busy season is coming up so it may be hit or miss for me but I think its a cool idea and would be fun to watch and build along.

Great
That's why I say informal no deadlines or commitments just be a member and join in when time allows like a think tank any input form members would be great and that's the idea to just have fun when time allows so there's no pressure at all just fun when you have time
looks like we have 4 so far

Hi smokejohnson
, Hi Skiman762
as soon as we get 6 members, lets vote on a name from the members, we can make a list and everyone can vote on it, I have some Ideas on a beginners delta with a canard design to make it easier to fly, with more front lift, just an idea look at, I think this will be fun, Chellie

If I didn't have so many personal issues taking up my time, I'd be in. As it is, I'll have to be content to watch from the sidelines (for now). I haven't even had time to glue together my SQD or AlleyCat parts.

It's going to be very informal the only thing we will be doing is voting on a name and picking the plane we will build first not that we won't build them all

this is not formal deal if you see something we can do to improve a project please add to the build

I am no designer...an end-user only. I let the creative create....I am merely a drum-beater and cheering section.

On-line, perhaps...in real life...not so much! ...but that is the plight of these message boards; we can all be someone special (if not only in our own little worlds).
My neighbors used to think I had a meth lab in the shed as I would be out there until all hours mixing stuff up and wearing a fume-mask...when they finally warmed up and came over, boy were they let down. Mr Excitement has foam, balsa, batteries, and ....(snore) they got bored real quick.
So I have depron, razors, some UHU, and am waiting for the first sets of plans to go up. Just got a bunch of small lipos and some tiny motors....

Sign me up for the creativity dept. that's what I do best and I do it in everything I touch, in fact the rest of you might have to pull my feet back down to planet earth from time to time.
Are we going for any kind of theme here? I have a lot of ideas for deltas I want to build, someone give me somewhere to start before I just start spewing all kinds of shapes and configuartions at ya...lol
Oh and I have electrical training so I can help there too.

So I guess I need to get off my rear and put together Chellie's SQD and see if I can even fly a delta.
So the curiosity is killing me Doyle, what will a 1978 Corvette flying wing look like?
My wife is pretty sure that I have lost what little bit of sanity I had left. She's never understood how I can spend so much time on "toys" that I either crash or get bored with. And now that I've gone around this evening humming circus music she's convinced I'm crazy.

As per our founder (skiman762):
- design and build flat foam wings and deltas
- put pen to paper
- design a wing or delta
- no exact copies of other designs
- keep it simple and quick to build
- Keep it cheap
- still have fun
- Oh yeah... get it to fly

My first design is going to be a delta biplane that with alittle luck will be able to hover and do some 3d stuff yet it will still be flat and simple
not sure on power yet but it will be very simple and quick to build
I'm not too good with any kind of program to put my designs on so you'll probable get a picture of a drawing with measurements instead of a fancy cad drawing put hey that falls under simple right ?

Sounds like a plan to me...
BTW, this is my Rev E version of my AeroVette Smoke, uhmm I dont think it counts as being simple due to the sculpting that needs to take place, but I did a mock up from white foam and it only took me an hour. I must say it is mostly inspired from a 78 vette but the back of the cockpit is more like an early 70's style, 72 I think.
