My 10 year old rebuilds crashed planes. And when he got ready for his 1st solo flight he insisted on takin up a rebuilt Stryker. LOL And got it up and down successfully. Now I don't even stand near him when he flys and Chellie said last Sun. as we watched him fly that he was becoming a really good R/C pilot.

Steve,
If you don't want to go BL cause of the cost. You can also do the A-10 as a twin pusher with 2 cheep brushed motors. I did one a while back before I did the BL version with the outrunner in it's butt. The twin brushed worked very well. Check out the thread I started on RCG.

That Little 10 year kid is Doing a Awesome job of Flying and repairing planes, you cant stop him
he just needs to remember to call out the Radio frequency before flying, he gets to excited and turns on his radio, good thing is that no one uses that frequency at the field, but I make sure to teach him to do that, to prevent a mishap, what works great is to put a large rubber band on his wrist to remind him, I have seen adults doing the same thing too, but James is starting to remember to Call out his frequency now, just Got to teach them right, and he is doing a Great Job of that Now, For a 10 year old, he is Amazing
Take care, Chellie

I learned to fly and build by pulling foamies out of the trash at a local field. I don't really have the time to rebuild anymore (don't crash um very often thank God) Anyways I have a few planes in not too terrible shape if he wants to take a crack at um. One is a really heavy E-flight Sea Fury (first attempt at glassing) If he wants it. I'll send it out to ya. Just split the shipping. Few bucks a piece and I'd love to see pics if he gets it up and flying. If not Mech Retracts and solid wing may be a good scratch build project. Let me know.

3rd GWS A-10. I did a no dead weight job. I put a GWS 2215 in the bodycavity in front of the wing. Ran a Aluminum tube up to a ball bearing in the brass tube of the nose cannon. Loves to spin any diameter 6" pitched prop on 3 B & D 1100's.
Will paint the GWS prop hub black so it looks like the cannon.
It wants to pull the plane out of my hand vertically.
A real MOO HA HA for the 3D crowd.

Ouch on the post! Some of use work jobs during the weekday until 4:30-5pm and are just getting home and have no access to website during the day. What size lipo are you running and which EDF55 motors are you running?

From the GWS website, the 300H brushed motors in the EDF55 pulls 7.1 amps at 10.8volts with the following warning: "High voltage boosts power , but fatally damages the motor (Don't use)"
I would think you want a 20 amp ESC to be safe if using a 3S. I used a Pixie 20 in my GWS B-2 with the same fans and motors. But just as the warning says, I had maybe 4-5 flights before the motors burned out.
Not sure why you were sent an 8 amp ESC. Maybe he forgot that the amp draw was per motor and forgot to multiply by two? Or thought you were running 2S lipo?

Good weight Steve.I just weighed mine. I can not get my GWS planes off of 17 oz. A-10 & the Spitfire both weigh that. The Hog has 4 VPX's & the Spit has 3.
The VPX's weigh 1.5 oz each.
But they are so damm safe & repeatable on power I just accept the weight.
I put them in a drill last Feb. 08. Had full charge until 2 weeks ago for a attic job.
Put it on the Cell Pro 4 & about 5 minutes later, full charge.

So how's the A-10 holding up Steve?
I had bought a slope version A-10 awhile back. Went to the LHS to see if they had an EDF-55 motor and fan set today, and they did. But it was wrapped in another A-10! I decided to get it, so now I have a spare.
