Too much power

Rage RC vintage stick flies great outdoors, but its way too fast for our gym. I'd prefer to fly it indoors. Need power for take off but only requires about 10% throttle to maintain flight. Receiver is non DSM2. Any ideas on how to slow it down would be appreciated.

Current and power drawn are proportional to pitch, and proportional to prop-diameter⁴.
Current drawn is proportional to voltage² and Kv³.
However, if current at wide open throttle is too high for the controller then reducing throttle to get current below ESC max.current is not a good idea. It is even harder on ESC than to keep overamping at full throttle. Better to prop down a bit to reduce current.

I had a similar problem, wanted full power for take off but only needed 10 or 15% for flight. I added a throttle curve that gave me much more stick movement at low levels. 0-75% stick was 0-25% throttle, 75%-100% stick was 25-100% throttle.

The use of throttle curves is actually a good thing on most models. I think most of us can relate to the lack of fine sensitivity to throttle in certain range for certain models. Particularly in 3D and aerobatics.
Apply a curve to give greater control in the range for manoeuvres and it becomes really sweet.
Curves are not just for Heli flyers !!
