Hi,
Just thinking of reigniting my flying interest, been racing ground vehicles recently. (rc bikes)

Was looking at getting a cross section foam type plane.
Not ready for the full fuselage balsa types...
Really like the E-flite Enticement, but cant get one over this side.

Am looking at around 30-40" wing span, something that will fly nice an slow, with its nose in the air, and may allow me to do some hovers?

So far I have looked at:
E-flite Extra 260 3D Profile - (out of stock with no future date)
E-FLITE DEPRON ENTICEMENT F3P - (out of stock and discontinued)
REFLEX V2 FOAM EP ARTF MONO
Malibu F3p

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

EPP is the way to go. I bet I went through a dozen Depron and FFF 3D planes before getting my Lightflite Bug, now my 3D game is on a whole new level. My suggestion would be something EPP in the 5-7 ounce range.

If you can just find the EPP there are several plans available to download.

Am I correct in thinking that the EPP models are the full bodied foam type planes, as apposed to the cross section type? as per the pictures above?

What about this Dynam Extra 330L?

Comes with all servos, motor, esc and battery.
Is essentially RTF.

Had a very good and informative discussion with a very knowledgable chap at the LHS....

And have put money down on an Ikarus Yak 54 Shock Flyer.
They are going to supply the motor and esc, plus a couple of light batteries. Thanks very much.

Any hints or tips, even warnings would be very much appreciated.

There are some full fuse EPP planes but I was talking about the profile models. Here is a pic of a Bug, it's what I am currently learning on.



It can take an insane amount of abuse. I don't even worry about hitting the ground anymore and practice all my 3D stuff down low and up close where it is easier to see what is going on.

If I can ever wear it out, which right now it is looking like it may never happen, I have a Slofly SuperSlo 28 waiting to be built. It is also EPP.



Let us know how the Ikarus Yak 54 works for ya.

Those look really good.

Like the bug, is it elevator and rudder only, 3 channel?

May look at an EPP, sound more crash resistent.
Then save the Yak for later, when I get better.

The Bug uses elevons and a rudder, it will hover all day long. They kind of fly funny but once you get used to it they are an absolute blast. I fly mine in front of my house around trees, mailboxes, cars, you name it. It doesn't seem like there would be room but it handles it just fine.

I too love my BUG. The smallest space I've flown it in is a middle school baseball infield. I have never had so much fun flying as I have with my BUG. It can go super slow / hover or quite quickly with unlimited vertical.

I couldn't be happier with my RC Factory Yak 54. It was an easy build and flies like it's on rails. The overall quality of the kit is EXCELLENT. The only mods I made where ditching the wheel spats and larger wheels. I also went with the micro pull/pull controls by Dubro.

Turnigy makes a piaget 3D plane made of EPP foam. I plan to buy one and use for indoor. You could also plug a 3 cell into it for outdoor flight

It seems to be a great flyer indoor and out. IT comes with a motor. I wouldnt recomend using the prop included though. I would use a GWS 8040 with a 2 or 3 cell lipo, and an 18A esc.

Great looking plane and just the sort of flying I am after.

The Yak 54 arrived today, many thanks to the Model Shop Leeds.

Does seem a little flimsy though.
Hope to start building it at the weekend.

Oh, and cant seem to find anyone that sells the Bugs, or the Turnigy Piaget 3D?
Or am I looking in the wrong places.

The Piaget 3D I've only seen available through the Hong Kong shops so far. I was thinking of getting one but I'd rather deal with a seller that's on the same continent in case of problems.

Just ordered the Piagets 3D....

Looking at the Yak 54, not sure it would last long for a novice flyer.
Still going to build it over the weekend.

Just need to find a nice large indoor area to fly in.
Weather is wet and windy here at the moment...

If you still are sold on foam take a look at the other offerings from Kalteisen, he is working on a foam skinned airfoiled wing and epp fuse combo that we all hope will fly as well as the Skeeter series does.
Keep the flat wings for indoors. The problem here is on a typical summer day the wind is blowing up to 20 KMP by noon and that pretty much grounds a foamy.

Just took delivery of the Turnigy Piaget 3D - thanks pvtzemerak and HobbyKing...

Its EPP foam, so should be resilient for a newby crasher.

Tell me how it goes, from what i am reading, people say not to use the recomended prop because its pulling too many amps for an 18A esc.
I think with a GWS 8040, you should be fine

Heres what im going to use for my setup ( when i buy one)
prop- 8040 GWS with the motor it comes with
esc- Turnigy 18A esc
battery- rhino 2s 750mah lipo
Servos- turnigy 9gs all around
EPP foam is great. My superfly is made out of it, and its so easy to repair with hot glue
