Exclamation Blade CX2 spinning uncontrollably

Hello, I am new to RC heli flying and I need some help. I got a Blade CX2 for christmas and was flying well for a while. Then one day my heli started spinning uncontrollably. I had a few minor crashes and have upgraded to Boomtown Hobbies' parts. After letting sit off for a while it works again but starts spinning after a few minutes. I adjusted the main trim and the controller trim and they are fine. Please respond quickly because I was planning to go somewhere to fly tomorrow.

Thanks.

Ever replace the motors? Maybe one is binding and overheating?

There is a proportional & gain adjustment on the 3 in 1 control unit. If your nose of the heli is spinning to the right you want to adjust the proportinal counter clock wise if it's spinning left turn it clock wise make small adjustment and test the heli.Make sure all your trims are centered on the transmitter throttle trim can stay at the lowest setting. If this does not work make sure you have not damaged a shaft or gear causing it to bind and not spin freeley. If everything checks out ok and the proportinal adjustment does not fix the problem try to rebind your transmitter to your heli. If your heli does not spin up smooth and it shakes you could have a bent shaft. I hope this is helpful.

The cx2 with it's stock shafts can have blade strikes while flying just a warning that is where the upper and lower blades hit each other.A blade will break most of the time and down comes the heli. You can buy an extended inner shaft the best one I found was a heli tek shaft. My cx2 has xtreme se180 motors, boomtown boom, folding blade kit, unbreakable skids from boomtown & eflite aluminum upgrades. The 2 best upgrades was the folding blade kit and the longer inner shaft.

I ordered the Boomtown Hobbies Pro 180 motors and the Extended Inner Shaft when some one suggested i get new motors. I installed them fine but when i lift off, the bottom blades start spinning first and it starts spinning out of control. When i switch the motor plugs, the top one spins first, but the thrust is directed upward, pushing the heli down. Is it possible what i installed one of the motors the wrong way.

Sorry i didnt say it earlier...i have not been able to get on the past couple of days...Thanks for all the Help!!

Well, I guess you have to switch the plugs back, unless you're ready for 3d!

After you get them switched back, follow the main motor trim pot adjustment instructions on page 20 of the manual. See if that helps.

OK on your motors where they plug into your 3 in 1 control my need to be switched look at your heli from the rear the motor on you right plugs into the top slot on your motor plug on 1 side you can see the metal tabs for the right side motor the metal tabs need to face the rear of the heli on the left the metal tabs should face the front and plug into the lower slot on the 3 in 1. Your motors spin in opposite directions so thats why the motor plugs have to face the way I said. So if you plugged the top motor into the bottom plug and it was pushing the heli down thats what it should have done because you were running it backwards by not turn the plug 180 degrees. The blades are directional on the cx2 so thats the reason it was pushing down.

Have you changed your blades? stock blades are numbered 1 & 2 (1's on top) (2's on bottom)

OH MY GOD I AM SO HAPPY...I didn't know you could switch the polarity of the motors (found out on accident) But now it doesn't spin rediculously. THANKS GUYS

Hello, I'm having a similar problem, just spinning blades up to check tracking of blades and all of a sudden it starts spinning in one way or the other very quickly, any help would be appreciated. I'm new at the hobby, not had one flight with this heli yet.

Welcome to WF, Raven. First thing I'd say, is if that's a new heli since you said not one flight with it yet, is take it back to where you got it before you do anything else to it.

How much do you understand heli flight? In this heli, the counter-rotation of the blades cancel each others torque to keep it from spinning. When you want it to turn, it speeds up one and slows the other to get the desired turn rate, input from you from the yaw control on your tx, which goes through a gyro(Built into the 3-in-1 unit. Rx, motor speed controls, gryo), and the desired output is sent from it.

Without seeing it in person, it's kind of guess work. Are both sets of blades spinning? Did you buy this new or is it used? Have you had any accidents with it yet? These are known to fry a speed control quickly if you're giving it any throttle and the blades are held in place, like if it fell on it's side or something.

So there could be some simple things here. First, are you allowing the heli to sit still for a few seconds when first plugged in so the gyro can align itself? I think I recall there is a flashing light you have to wait to become solid. Second, is your yaw (Rudder?) trim on your tx centered? Have you tried adjusting the trim?

Just starters. Anything help there? Any more info you can give will help us help you.

Edit, I just re-read your post and saw the part about spinning one way or the other. If it's out of control sometimes in one direction, and sometimes another, that makes me think it's a gyro problem. Either it's not working right, or you're not letting it power up correctly.

Default Cx2 spinning

I agree the first thing is did you buy it new or used? One thought I have is you said you were trying to track the blades and the heli is spinning one way or the other your throttle stick is your rudder control as well which turns the heli it does not take to much stick movement to turn the heli so make sure your not moving the stick left or right when your giving throttle input. Just a thought since your new. By the way if you stand with the tail of the heli facing you the nose of the heli is what you watch so if the nose turns to the right it's spinning right and of course nose left is a left spin so if you can give us more info it will help. If it is only spinning in one direction let us know that will help if it's random and sometimes goes right and the next time or at other times turns left let us know It's easier if it's always the same direction then their are things we can suggest for you to try. Let us know anything you have done to the heli if you have worked on it changed parts and anything you have tried to fix your problem. Xmech hit some very good points he is right a green light will blink do not move the heli or control sticks on the transmitter until the light is solid green and not blinking also make sure to turn your transmitter on first plus make sure the throttle stick is at it's lowest setting & the trim tab that moves up and down beside your throttle trim is all the way down then plug your battery in to power up the heli and wait for the light.

Default Cx2 spinning wildly

Ok thanks for the response, I do let the heli set upright and still letting the gyros do their thing ,I bought it new and when I say not one flight that meaning lots of small crashes heli never been three feet off the ground replaced several blades. The sever spinning just started out of the blue maybe it's the gain? Can't seem to get the trim right it won't hover feel if I can get it to hover than I can learn to fly. Thanks for any input. p.s. the spin is in either direction I just start throttling up and let it sit at maybe 1/4 throttle and bam it spins like crazy by itself no input from me of coarse in throttle down right away.

Raven a few more ? and a few things to check so here we go. Have you adjusted the proportional on the gyro? if the heli is spinning in one direction say to the right all the time you need to turn the setting to the left making tiny adjustments at a time with the battery unplugged make a very tiny adjustment and plug the battery back up and test the heli and repeat if it's still spinning till it stops . The gain adjustment is to keep the tail from wondering if you get the gain too high the tail may twitch. With crashes even a few feet off the ground can cause damage make sure your blades are on right check the inner & outer shafts & make sure their not bent the inner shaft bends easy. when you throttle up the heli is it smooth or does the heli shake? if it shakes you have a bent outer or inner shaft or both which can cause binding. I will say this in my case I first used training gear on mine and it caused it not to fly as good as it does without it. I took mine off after a few times of trying to fly I did better without the training gear the heli just handled better and was easier to fly. One more thing if you don't find anything bent or binding and all seems to checkout ok read you manual on binding the heli to the transmitter and rebind your heli and TX. You need to unplug the motors for binding it's safer mark your moto plugs so you know which one goes where and what way the plugs are turned.

Default Sorry

I keep thinking about things and adding to the reply. I need to get some sleep I'll check when I get home from work tomarrow and see how your doing with the heli and try and help if you still need it. Others may jump in and help too! Dont give up it's a fun hobby and the cx2 is a good starter heli but it has it's drawbacks and a lot of them can be fixed with upgraded parts. There is a company WL Toys they have a heli called the v911 it's a single rotor heli with a tail motor it's small and very tuff and very stable. They sell for around 45.00 I have hit walls and many other things in the house with this little heli and nothing has broke or bent. Check it out on Youtube it might make a good heli to start off with then go back to the cx2. I know it may sound odd to start with a single rotor first but it's cheap tuff and if you did break it parts are very cheap and it is as or more stable than the cx2. The reason I made the suggestion it would be a cheaper heli to learn with. I went thru no telling how many sets of blades on the cx2 and inner shafts a few outer shafts 2 sets of skids and canopy. It all adds up fast. Once you learn to fly the cx2 and start pushing it a little hard in the turns then comes the blade strikes and down comes the heli because a blade or 2 breaks. All of this is can be fixed with better parts. Boomtown skids, helitek extended inner shaft wont bend like other after market shafts it's unbendable. Micro heli folding blade kit & Boomtown hobbies tailboom & battery holder It will save you money in the long run so as the parts break and need replacing look into what I listed. read up on all this stuff on the internet. Read on here on the v911 heli what people say about it as well. Good night.

Hmm... The big issue here is that the spin direction seems to be random, and to me, that just points to the gyro. You got the 3-in-1, it connects to each motor, which is geared to it's rotor shaft. If it was something with a motor, or gear, or rotor, then it would just be an out of control spin one way. Could be something wrong with both drive systems, though that's highly unlikely. Did this start right after a repair? What did you work on or disassemble for access during that repair? The set screws on the gears tight? Are the rotor blades on right? Etc...

Default Cx2spin

Ok some more info I made a mod to the 3 and 1, I was told to take it off and drill holes to disapate heat, so to do that had to unplug throttles elev, and rudd this I believe is when the problem started.

Rudder? I haven't opened my CX2 in a long, long time, but I thought there were the 2 motor connections, and the elev and ail controls? But then, have they changed it since the early ones? And then drilling in that? Hopefully didn't touch something important inside!

You may have damaged your 3 in1 drilling into it. There is no reason to drill holes into the 3 in1 I have not heard of them over heating. Their are mods & upgrades for the cx2. Out of the box the cx2 is a good flyer and with a few aftermarket parts it can be more durable. You may have to get a new 3in1 and get the heli working right. The only 2 upgrades as a newbi is the folding blade kit and unbreakable skids and that's because it's a money saver that is the 2 items that break the most The folding blade kit does improve the helis flight. Eflite makes a heatsink for the cx2 motors . If you plugged everything back into the 3 in 1 correct and the spinning started after the drilling I will stick with my above statement you more than likely damaged the 3n1. FMS is a free rc flight sims you can buy a cord to hook your transmitter to a computer and use it for a learning tool or buy a usb rc style controller they cost around 20.00. There is a load of info on the cx2 and upgrades some good some not. Some companies claim their upgrades wiil let the cx2 fly in wind condition that are around 10mph I don't find this to be true I have many of the upgrades and the heli is just too small to handle that kind of wind. Ask on here or any of the fourms before buying and people will help you out with info.

Sorry Raven You seem too have got it fixed and posted it while I was typing. Glad to hear you got it fixed. I see you stated the 3n1 was a empty case that's good.
