Default Scratch Built FPV Plane

I decided to build my own FPV plane verses buying a readymade plane. I'm going for this look, although not exactly being precise:

I have the set of wings from the below picture : (my daughter who is 4 in the picture is currently 20 now and serving the US in Afghanistan.)

I added a few more pictures. I got kind of sleepy last night....

For power I'm looking to use a 4S 5000 (or bigger) lipo and a motor like this (but not decided yet):

500 watt (cant find the link yet....)

Dave, you're doing a beautiful job on her! I love those military type planes. They are great fliers. Can't wait to see her done and flying!

Hopefully not too bad. As a 60 size glow it landed pretty mellow. I want a plane that has some girth in the wind, I'll take a bit of weight for compromise.

Dave,

I really like the "Obtainium" nose cone. Too bad you are a flat-lander...you would have made a good hillbilly.

Do you aim to have the camera mount inside of the fuse?

I'm just going to have a wireless cam most likely mounted on top behind the nose cone

I got a little done, its not much. Had to go out of town on business......but I am back and relaxing tonight

Here I am starting to sheet the side of the fuse with 3/32 balsa

And here I made a removable tray that fits inside the nosecone. I needed something there so I can mount weight as far forward if I need to for balancing.

Slacker. I would have it done, and crashed, by now.

Here is the bottom. I used a special hard wood for the first 1/3 or so of the fuse as I will add a runner on it to take the brunt of the landings. Very strong!

Here shows the front better. I made these steps in the front fuse intentional. I need to contour the front to match the nose cone.

To do that, I used pink foam 3/4 inch insulation. I bought a scrap piece from our local home improvement store for a couple bucks....like a 4x4 foot sheet.

Here it is prior to shaping:

Here it is rough shaped / sanded and glued to the airframe. I'll do the same for the bottom next.

Nice build, I want to to get into FPV flying, but do not have the experience to scratch build a plane. I would like to do it from a Wind Dragon, but still learning how to fly it.

Both of these are very docile planes and make awesome FPV planes as they are intended. I am sort of old school, but will prob buy one of these to just have around:

Well I have to say if the Wind Dragon does not workout I think I would have to go with the Skywalker with the 66 inch wing span.
