Default WattFlyer Goes Mobile

With Mobile Devices becoming more and more popular, we at WattFlyer thought that it would be beneficial to think outside of the box for our Mobile Users.

We implemented a new feature aimed specifically at our Mobile users to make their browsing experience easier here.

Any mobile user that surfs their way to WattFlyer will be presented with an optimized forum specifically designed for those PDA, Ipod and Windows Mobile devices. It is purely automatic, so no special interaction is needed. It provides a condensed feature list, but all the great information that Wattflyer has to offer.

Yes nice addition indeed. As soon as my boy gets home from his Ski weeeknd I'll check it on his Ipod touch and see what it looks like.

Mike,

I don't see any difference when viewing Wattflyer on my iPhone. It looks the same as when viewed on my iMac.

Guys, I had to disable this mod for a bit. We had a member that it was causing his browser to not insert page breaks.

For now I have the style still available and can be user selected. If you look at the bottom of each page you will see the default selected. When on a mobile device, you can change that to Mobile and it will provide the new template.

I am working on the code to see if I can find why this is causing his posts to go pear shape.

When I selected Mobile device on my iPhone it switched OK, but now I cannot access the pop-up menu to switch back because the left edge of the page is cutoff where the menu should be.

Try it now. I enabled the switcher at the very bottom of the page.

Mike,

I spoke too soon. I can select Default Style and there is a check mark beside it, but it does not switch to default style. Even after a re-start. Bummer

My WebTV internet terminal gets redirected here too. No faster, of corse, as I'm limited to 56K landlines on the Classic unit. There are no sigs. But I can see the photo's and smileys again! Still can't put any in though, other than longhanding them, but that's no different

Don't know about the U-Tube videos yet. I don't think they worked on my Webby anyways, or it took too long to load for me to bother with them. But I can see (and I hope use) the quote button again! Yipee! Thanks guys

P.S. KEWL! I can edit too!

Bill,
I should have it worked out today. I will most likely direct Iphone traffic to the non-mobile template and leave all else going to mobile.

After using it for a few days I do have one minor gripe. In the mobile theme there seems to be no way to access any images (or other files I assume) that are attached to a post.

It would be nice if attachments were shown as a list of links at the end of the post.

Cheers!

Mke,

I haven't been able to get out of mobile mode. Did you implement the fix described above?

Bill,
Idid indeed. I coded it to ignore Iphone Safari browsers. It should be directing iphone traffic to the non mobile portal. Is it still directing you?. If you try and change it via the style menu below will it let you go to the default template? I am in Chicago this week and using my crackberry. If it still int working, ill dig into it agaon Friday. I need to snag my brothers iphone to test with. Maybe ill let him cook me diner Friday night
