Ok..I have narrowed it down to 2 comps pretty much. Depending when you read this you may be seeing one or the other of which one of them will be the winning header. The one I have up now is by Captain Ken

Yea, I like how you took some parts out of other ones and put them together.
Who is the other one by?

Very nice in the blue - I like that a lot more than the original red version.

I think I liked the name by itself in the original without the lightning or .com at the end ... seems a tad small and busier now between the swoosh, but all in all extremely nice in the blue.

A side note - when browsing in IE6 at the office, the headers aren't lining up centered over the forums for me unless I make the browser window the smallest possible size it can be while still keeping all the content in view (was happening before with the old banner, too).

Dave,

the new comp has the .com out of it. refresh.

on the lineup issue. does anyone else see header not lining up? I have IE7 and firefox 2.x and lines up ok in both.

Looks like the header is lined up perfectly, at least on my computer. Looks really good.

I can see what he's talking about on one of my monitors when using IE6, The header lines up just to the left of center. Works fine with Firefox and looks darn nice.

I like the larger version without the .com better. Wouldn't mind the .com if it was under the "Flyer" part after the tail in the "Y," but I think it makes the "WattFlyer" name itself stand out more when it's bigger like you've got it now. That's just me, personally, though. My tastes might not match everybody elses.

And here's a screenshot of the header as I see it. This is at full screen at 1280 x 1024 for my screen res. Like everyone else, I don't believe I get this on IE7 at home. (We're stuck on IE6 at work right now because Quickbooks 2005 uses parts of IE6 to power its navigator, and they're still patching it for IE7 compatibility). The header alignment looks fine in Firefox 1.5, for what it's worth, too.

That's what I'm saying. Let me just say, I can't wait to see the next one!!!!!!!!!! Not to try to be too critical, but, this one looks a little plain I think. Nice, but, plain. And it looks a little small. Thanx, Scott.

I agree with Perl about the .com everyone should know it is .com because we are here on the website.

Do you plan to leave the right side completely open or do you plan to add things there as you wish?

By the way is it WattFlyer or wattflyer or Wattflyer?

Jim,

The right side at least for now would stay as is. I could envision something small on the bottom right like a "PM Message Waiting" alert, date, username, news or some combination thereof. Right now it looks nice and clean so not sure I want to mess with Ken's fine work.

As far as the capitalization it can be any of those...they all resolve correctly to this site. It is just a matter of preference and design. For this header it was all lowercase in the font used that looked right.

I have to say choosing just one from the many great submissions proved to be a brain buster for me. You guys all did such a fantastic job and so many of these really just blew me away. For everyone who submitted a comp here give yourselves a big pat on the back. I may end up using (with the creators permission) some of these in some online or print pieces/ads we may do this year. If we do select one for any of these other projects you'll get bragging rights and we'll toss you some coin too so you can go out and buy some eflight gear.

Thanks again to everyone for participating and contributing and making this a true community based project.

Congrats to Captain Ken who I shall officially name the winner of the very first Wattflyer Header Design Contest

I like the new header. Caught my eye as soon as I opened it up this morning. Very nice and distinctive. Clean looking and not a lot of chatter.

Great Job Capt Ken!
