Default Maiden Eflite Opterra 1.2

This plane flies pretty good for a PNP ready model. I am getting 25 min on a 3S 3300mah battery. It was about 10-13 mph winds when I flew in this video. IT is going to be a FUN plane in the mountains!!!

Added these components to the PNP version of Opterra 1.2
Foxeer Arrow V3 Camera (osd voltage & timer)
ReadyMadeRC Cricket V2 5.8 video transmitter + 1000uf Capacitor
DTF LRS Reciever + 1000uf Capacitor
Menace Pagoda LHCP 5.8 Antenna
XT60 Power Connector w/4 inch extension
ReadyMadeRc 3S 3300mah Lipo
Goggles DVR : Fatshark HDO
Head Mounted GoPro Hero 2
Truck Vantage Point: GoPro Hero 6

My family owns a ranch about 65 miles outside of Cheyenne. I'm glad to see someone flying out there. Though I don't envy you flying in the nefarious Wyoming winds.

After a loooong absence from the Hobby (loooong story) I'm picking up the pieces. When I first started flying I threw myself into the hobby and came close to burnout. Then something happened. Now I'm ready to pick up the hobby again. This time around I'm doing the baby step thing. I'm not jumping into building right out of the gate (good bull.... Nice bull). It's just too expensive to get all the gear and such to start building. I was going to put together another zagi and put together a 90mph wing. Doing so cost nearly 50% more as getting the Opterra 1.2. No waiting for parts to arrive, no long trips to hobby store. I'll just ease into the hobby and enjoy flight rather than build for now.
I've got a new dx6e, opterra. Just waiting on charge and batteries to arrive.
I'll be doing a mod or two eventually. Some folks are doing some slick modifications on these.
I'd like to get the 2m Opterra, but I'm not convinced I need it. You need more room than I can see distance wise. Give me a few acres and no snooty, uptight, know it all veteran flyers (you know the type with sticks up their *utt) around I'm more than happy. My Zagi was 48" and I can't imagine flying a 2 meter wing, especially without a great FPV set up (more $).
Oh sure I'll eventually set up the Opterra for FPV. But that stuff is very new to me, so I'll just read, ask and read until I'm satisfied that I have a full grasp of it.
Hope you're enjoying the Opterra and don't get blown away.

Thank you Don. I was I member of wattflyer 10 years ago (Major Danger) and drove you nuts with my borderline vernacular. I'll make every effort to be a good boy this time around.

Default 4 cell 2700mah Test - High Wind

Wasn't willing to risk my HD camera on test flight, so this is the footage from my Fatshark HDO Goggles (internal dvr). This was a test of my Opterra 1.2m on a 4s 2700mah lipo. The wind really picked up (30mph). The wing flew best at 1/2 throttle. It easily handled the wind! For the price and to get quickly into the air this model is hard to beat. I like that it has folding prop so I don't break it landing out in the prairie / woods.

Hey dude,
I broke down and made the choice to get the 1.2 over the 2 meter.
Latter down the road I'll probably get the 2m.

But I was reading in a completely different forum, which I'm not impressed with the members enough to participate, that some are reinforcing their motor cowling and seam with a bit of fiberglass. They say it's prone to break there if anywhere.

Your thoughts?

You know what would be cool, flying it with a virtual reality goggle. just hand launch it, put on your visor and try to fly it, that would truly rock!

Relax bro, Im learning the tech talk. He said goggle in his list of goodies for the flight, I didn't know at the time if he had used a goggle that gave it a heads up display. Now I know......Bro, I just clicked on the video, and I didn't see the dude with goggles on, I reckon there was on dude filming this capton….
