Is e-pattern flying dead? Has 3D replaced it?

Around here, I don't see hardly anyone that wants to learn pattern. They have to perfect each maneuver and then remember which one comes next.
3D is just freestyle for the most part. Yes there are various stunts, but one mans flat spin or Harrier may not look like someone else's but people say they both looked good.
I think pattern is judged on precession and 3D is judged on entrainment value.
Of course these are just my thoughts.
I can't do either one right now, I am just happy if I don't have to fix something when I go home.
