Default Scale Cockpits

I am always looking for planes with access to cockpit or cabin areas. To try and detail for in flight video. Since I fly foam planes, there's not that much out there.

But an open cabin can be promising. And easy to access.

Here's one of mine.

Anyone have ideas for foam models with easy access for detail work?

Here is the direct link -- not using the Wattflyer youtube handles.

Often I find no cockpit or details with the kits ... if there is - often its some childs idea of what it should be !!

So I go online with the name of the real plane .... get a photo and then search for cockpit dashboards etc.

Here's the one for my Extra I downloaded ...

I measure the width and height of model area it will be set in ... and then adjust the picture ... print and then glue to a Depron sheet backing for fixing in place.

My Nieuport 28 that I entered and got 8th place for scale in UK years ago ... eventually ended up with scale dash, joystick and pilot ... based on a light tray fitted into fuselage.
I searched books and library (forums like this were just not around then !) for anything I could get hold of to show what I needed.

Many foam ARFs have access...
Dynam war-bird & civilian series, appx 1200mm span. The canopies pop off relatively easily. (a common trait of EPO foam models....)
Airfield's larger models, appx 1500 mm span for theirs, might be a bit better simply from having more room for the camera.

You can carve out more space in the removable cockpit/battery hatches. The EPO cuts very cleanly with a sharp knife... or grind it out then carefully heat with a soldering iron to melt the surface and smooth it. (can make a bent music wire hot melt cutter or use one made for model railroads)

You just need to look for clear canopies and EPO foam.

I removed the front windshield and added magnets to take on and off. Installed some of my own dashboard detail.

First flight with the magnetic windshield and new dashboard detail, ended with a bit of confusion. As I forgot which way the wind was blowing (again) and landed with the wind, for a speedy approach and a broken front landing gear...
