Default VRX Octane XL 1/10 Brushless RC Car

Hello,

Thanks to Tobey from Banggood i received my VRX Racing Octane XL

I attach some quick pictures of the Octane XL alongside my other rc cars for size comparison

You can find the car on banggood for about 220$ + 10$ shipping:
http://www.banggood.com/VRX-Racing-R...?rmmds=myorder

As far i can tell the "original" VRX-Racing distributor website is the one below and its in Italian :

http://www.vrxracing.it/prodotto/oct...0-brushed-vrx/

The site also offers a list of the available spare parts (where you can also find small upgrades such as lights ) :

http://www.vrxracing.it/prodotto/oct...d-vrx/#ricambi

Car Details:

Length: 500mm
Width: 300mm
Height: 220mm
Wheel sizes: 135mm x 55mm
Wheelbase: 328mm
Motor : 3650 3300KV Brushless ( According to banggood motor supports both supports 2s and 3s )
ESC : 45A ( According to banggood ESC supports only 2S batteries)

The car comes with everything you need to run it out of the box:

* Nice FlySky FS-GT2 transmitter ( Needs 8 AA Batteries )
* 3300mah 2s 25c Lipo
* Balance Charger for 2s and 3s Batteries
* No assembly required

When you 1st take the car out of its box you realize that its really big and dominant looking. Another thing that you notice right away is that the suspension works very well and the car doesn't bounce at all, i think the very soft "empty" tires help in that department too. According to the VRX Website the servo and receiver are waterproof but i doubt that, in reality they are more like spash-proof.

Regarding the FS-GT2 transmitter what is not obvious is that the Tx works well on the computer for simulators with only a standard mini-jack cable using SmartPropoPlus and Virtual Racing Pro that you have download here: https://www.vrcworld.com/about/.

What is interesting is that on SmartPropoPlus the Tx is registered as a 3ch Radio and SmartPropoPlus has never been wrong so far. Does this mean we can add and extra switch to it, possibly to turn lights on/off ?

Here are some "dirty" pics of the VRX Octane i took on Sunday.

The car is fun to drive, handles very well, the suspension works great, and its fast.

Comparing it with the Feiyue Eagle apart from the obvious size difference, the VRX is much easier and accurate to drive than the Feiyue, but in terms of speed the Feiyue can keep up with the VRX just fine

Car run-time is about 20 min which is plenty

My first mod on this car:

I was tired of the car flipping over and i decided to do something about it

* Lowered front and rear suspension using the extra mounting holes provided
* Used 15mm axle wideners with the tube nut of the 25mm version of the wideners cut down to size ( no other way to secure the wheels in place )
* Slightly drilled the hole on the wheels with a 5mm drill so that the tube nut can fit
* Used locktite on all wheels ( We don't want the wheels flying away :P )

Now the car is 32cm wide and closer to the ground, hopefully this will make it more stable. I will post more details if anyone is interested,

Some quick photos of the car after the simple mod. I think its easy to tell its lower and wider, looks a bit better that way too.

upgraded the car to :

* FrSky 8ch diversity receiver
* 3s Capable ESC
* 3s 4000mAh battery
* Front Swat bar

I upgraded to FrSky so i can use my Turnigy 9xr Pro.

Having a computerized Tx i programmed the following:

* 70% steering ( needs further testing to determined safe steering travel before car rolls over )
* 60% throttle on 3s ( assigned to a switch, further testing is need to determined how much i should limit the throttle )
* 90% throttle on 2s ( assigned to a switch )
* expo on steering and throttle
* slowed down steering and throttle

Apart from the transmitter settings i did the following:

* Programmed the ESC to soft start
* Installed a cheap heatsink on the motor
* Greased the gears as they were dry

Too bad we can not gear down the car lower than 17T, also i think that using a 4000 mAh 3s battery on 60% max throttle will provide me with long runtimes

Next step is to wire lights at the front and then find a way to mount the FPV gear.

If and when banggood stocks the battery tray i will install a second battery tray under the cover and move the electronics at the back.

Also installed the short course truck bumper on my VRX and its exactly what i wanted.
I think it looks good and should provide more protection for the front of the car

Here is the link for the bumper:
