Default Banana Hobby PAK 50 Soviet Jet REVIEW

I got the small 3ch version for $149.

Just arrived and assembled it, have some info to share.

1. This is a really pretty plane.
2. It seems to be fairly sturdy.
3. The twin 50mm fans are AWESOME!
4. Uses linked elevators and ailerons. (Track same direction)
5. Comes with a 2 axis gyro. (I am not using it yet)

The good:
Seems to have great power, and very good finish.
Great for belly landings and hand launches.

The bad:
The magnets are very strong... Stronger than the glue.. Every single magnet came out.
Gear is fixed, and nose is non steerable. (Can't taxi)
ESC's are combined in one plug, so no differential thrust without mods.
Paint will come off fairly easily.

Build:
Build was very very easy, included hardware is good. Servos were perfectly centered too.

Gear will not take grass higher than a golf green.

Tips:
Re-glue magnets and put tape over them.
I also added tape to the seams on wings.
Since plan is for belly landing, tape on bottom as well.

I am very much looking forward to the maiden.

Thanks Gunny,

I suspect that Jpowers is making these for BH under the Blitzworks brand ? I have several 50mm Skyangels, some of which I bought through BH. Looks very cool indeed.

I'll bet it screams ! I see they also offer a mini ME-262 twin 50mm in Kit form as well. Might try it with a pair of XRP 11 blade 50mm edfs I've been getting from Don's Wicked.

Post a flight vid when available.

Cheers,

Hawk

Picture included. Real hinges, not too much to remark about otherwise.

Yep. That was factory. I'm not put off by that at all though. (However the silvery area under the cockpit is dark grey nail polish... The paint will come off from removing the canopy.)

Got two flights on it.

Flight 1 - awesome! Flew great with very little trim needed. I was nervous, but that faded fast. Got lucky on the first hand launch. (Probably adrenaline sent it packing)

Flight 2 - failed hand launch. Didn't get up enough speed to get above the grass.

No damage, just popped a servo connector loose.

I really like this plane. Once in the air, it flies very similar to the Radjet but a bit faster. I want to try it on high rates, but I need to respect maximum throws and recheck them. I will be crazy happy if I can pull off a Cobra...

Time will tell. Planned on several flights, but didn't record the first couple. Will get some footage soon.

Love it...thanks for sharing. Was wondering when something was going to come out on this. BH little jets are great for the price (when on sale...a real sale). I have 3 of the Vipers that I picked up for about 80 each shipped. Can't beat that for value, and they came with the gyro.

use the Gryo....you won't believe how much easier it is launching these little jets with that gryo running.

Ok will try the gyro out.

It is such a simple gyro, I wasn't sure what to make of it.

i think the simplicity is what is so attractive about it. No need to really dial it in, it's pretty much plug and play. I found a huge difference in using versus not using it. Inverted flight, full throttle...10 feet off the deck...no worries. Really.

As far as brands, we know the prop foamy brands well, but edf is new.

I know and love FMS, Dynam, and have never had a Freewing before. This one is something else still. But I like the 50mm fans in it, and there is an me262 same setup.

Next edf will be an FMS Lightning or F15.

May have the 262 coming too.

The Gyro is apparently a dud. I can't get it to initialize or attempt to work.

I think I need a good idea of what pin is what. (Ground / Signal etc...) It is a nice simple idea, but I have too many irons in the fire to figure it all out right now.

Update: I love this plane. It lost an elevator in flight. (Was dangling at about a 45 degree angle, and was flopping in the wind) and it was still controllable!

Just replaced the elevators and attached the wheels.

After several flights:
- she flies awesome! Very stable!
- not really a good belly lander, but beautiful in the air and controllable both fast and slow.
- no steering on nose wheel, but I may still hand launch, just using gear to save my belly and elevators.
- flies great on a 25c 3s 2200, but battery is warm at end. 30c would be ideal.
- I would recommend packing tape over leading edges of wings. (There are plastic edges that grass will get under, and rip out otherwise)

I now consider my PAK 50 a veteran in my hangar.
