Beautiful blue clear sky and no wind whatsoever and I am just too tired to go flying...

Honestly, it's been so nice the past two weeks I barely know what to do with myself. Surely the blistering 35MPH winds will start up any time now, but until then...

Default Still Calm

I can hardly believe it, another calm day here in N.Michigan.
Flew a couple of planes and flew my Skycart if you want to call it flying.
Not too good, got some issues to sort.

Yep. Winds are gusting to 25MPH+ today so it's back to business as usual, but at least I got some flying in while the flying was good.

LOL except for the Apollo.
I am sick of repairing it. I must have too much strength in my right arm when I launch it. It has folded in half once too often now. The boom just folds up and then the thing lawndarts at 50 MPH and disintegrates.
This time was the last straw. Taking my gear out and putting it in the bin before I go soft again...

The other DLG is just a bit small and light to get any decent height. I actually tried it on a bungee this time and managed to get some reasonable height but it is still a disappointing model. At least it is in one piece....

Default Weather?

Well apparently our "sunshine tax" has been paid.

Its been eons since I've posted in the weather forum, but for use here in So-Cal (the real Southern Ca, not L.A.), the weather has been great. I've been flying like crazy. 38 property missions in the last 2 weeks, and still maintaining my weekend sport flying!

After each property, I try to catch a selfie that I call "The Daily Dronie", mainly as an anchor to help me determine when I've moved onto the next one..

So, here, I'll share how I have been spending my days lately!

Nice lookin area there Nitro.
Well i got in 2 flights this morning as the wind was down and nice cool temp
47deg. First one was the Ultimate Bipe and she flew real good for me with no
issues. Next up was the Infineon Bipe and also very good flight with no issues
until the landing and that wasn't too pretty. Banged the tip of the wing and knocked the spar loose and the strut broke. No big deal, done these repairs
many times.

I had a interesting day yesterday.

I decided to rebuild my Dancing Wings Pitts Biplane No2 electronics.
To begin, I would reinstall my larger motor again. That was the start of my problems. I taxiid/hopped it across my paddock a few times and suddenly the motor would not rev up.
I thought the ESC had failed and to cut a long story short, I changed ESCs and then fitted another one all to no avail. So I swapped the motor and it was still the same. Turns out both motors had gone dud on me.
Soooo I put the small (underpowered) motor back in and had fun flying it across my paddock.
But then I decided to go all out and swap from FrSky to my Spektrum.
I had some new 6 Ch Orange RXs and some Orange stabilizers that I had just reprogrammed to the latest firmware.
I removed my SBus X4R RX and my A3 Gyro and installed everything nicely and wahlaa... everything was working real sweet.
So I took my gutless Pitts to Hanks for a fly. Slight breeze.
Took off and it was flying perfectly. Text book landing and I was feeling pleased with myself.
Ground was a bit rough so my next take-off took too long and because my power was down I didn't clear a Jacaranda. grrr. Plop. The plane just softly fell to the ground and no damage at all. Soooo.. I lined it up down Hanks strip (downwind) Don't forget... low powered aircraft should not take off downwind..
Couple of times on its' nose due to rough ground which took me further down the strip and shortened my take-off space.
Keen to get another flight I managed to drag it into the air albeit at very slow speed making the ailerons pretty ineffective and the worst of it is that I had forgotten to couple my rudder and ailerons as I had previously with the FrSky gear.
The plane started to drag itself towards a large gum tree and no amount of aileron at that speed would turn it.
It lodged itself about 50 feet up the gum with all its' nav lights winking at me to intimidate me.
It was getting late by now so I had to act quickly and hopped in my car and drove home to get my favourite aircraft recovery rope.
Back to Hanks and started the 'swing the rope' process, eventually jagging the branch in just the right place. A good wiggle and down she came with lights flashing and landed in a small tree about 10 feet high. I climbed up and grabbed it and was pleased to see absolutely no damage whatsoever.
Lesson learned... Don't try taking an underpowered plane off downwind nor should you even try flying one.

Yes Mark, me too. I happened to find the original motor this a.m. I have already installed it and hopped it in my paddock.
I also mixed in Rudder to Aileron.
Ready to rock....

Our club had a night fly last night. A bit cool but I didn't need a jacket. The moon was out but not overly bright.
No casualties at all and we all had a ball. I had a Teksumo and a Phoenix with lights and this time I remembered to take my transmitter...
