Default E-flite UMX Radian Unboxing, Maiden Flight, and Flight Review

Hey guys!

I finally got to put together an unboxing, maiden flight, and flight review video for the UMX Radian RC sailplane. I hope those of you that have not purchased this plane yet will benefit from this:

Here are my Unboxing, Maiden and Review Notes:

Cons:
- Fragile
- Not easily transportable like previous UMX planes
- Brushed motor

Pros
- Handles stiff and swirling winds pretty well
- Good slow speed handling
- Performs loops well
- Good flight times
- Fun

Here is just the maiden flight video:

Hey guys!

Here is a video I made tonight. It was made to show what it looks like gliding down from approximately 200 feet in the air with no power for those that haven't yet joined this exclusive club:

Scatching my head....trying to figure out what's "the exclusive club" related to this $90.00, 29" WS.....glider....?

There are tons of various Radians out this way........the only exclusive clubs I'm aware of are the 3 meter and up WS slope glider types.....many of which are very "exclusive".......If one has flown those, you'll understand pretty quick, why......!

Oh hi Eeyore!

The exclusive part has to do with the fact that these sold out only a few days after they went on sale and won't be available until Mid to late May. Some LHS's have them still, but they are a rare item. Obviously they soon won't be, but for now they are exclusive.....like Cabbage Patch Kids were back in the day.

Fun fact: My mom got in a fight with a lady over one for me and she won. His name was Lenny Teddy.

GB, thanks for doing a review. Sorry if I missed it, but what kind of motor run times are you getting? Scored one at the lhs, just wondering what I should set my timer to.

You bet! They are a lot of work at times, but they are fun to me

I have my timer set to 10 minutes, but I really could set it to 12-15. Of course, that is just powering up into the sky and just gliding down a time or two. If you want to fly "harder" then I would think 10 minutes may be pushing it.

I hope that helps!

I was wondering about actual motor run time. The lmr's I fly in consist of 4 rounds. 20 seconds of motor run to climb, then 10 minute maximum glide time. Guess it's too much to ask of this little one. Could have been a fun departure from the norm!

Some of my first flights were in wind with a solid 8 minutes of run time each. The batteries still seem fine after that. When giving advice I like to be on the conservative side, so consider what I said above to be on the conservative side.

I don't think 20-25 minute flights are impossible either. I just don't want to be the one to find out the ceiling on them when Horizon gives this plane a 10 minute flight time rating.

Are you running the stock 150mAh 25C batteries? I am using the Gforce 160's.

LOL! It's still in the box in the garage. No time to fly it yet. Hopefully Saturday or Sunday.

Picked up a 2 pack of spare 45C batts, but I was a bit rushed. The guy at the lhs recommended them and I trust him, so I didn't catch the brand or exact mAh. I'll get back to you when I find out.

For those who have an interest in purchasing one of the micro Radians,
here's a list of U.S.A. vendors who have them in stock and priced at $89.99

http://stores.ebay.com/TNR-Kartsport...=p4634.c0.m322

http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...te-p-2666.html

http://www.cwactionhobbies.com/produ...bnf-bind-n-fly

http://shop.nrvhobby.com/hobbies/rad...adian-bnf.html

http://www.apelan.com/product/13940/...ro-Radian-BNF/

Now (for those who care to), one can join the "exclusive" club pretty easy........

No need to ackowledge the "contribution"......since there has been a history of videos by the OP posted at nearly every RC plane website that "forgets" to mention where one can purchase the models reviewed..........guess it's due to the fear of being a "sales" pitch....

Do you have any video of that flying at night to share?

I am not sure you need 45C batts for a plane like this, but I suppose it doesn't hurt. The UM P-51 could use those, however. Regardless, I hope you were able to get out and fly this plane this weekend!

So I made another "Flight and glide" video, only this time it was from 350 feet. The difference other than the higher height is it zooms out to show how high the little fart is in the sky:

This video below centers around me nearly losing my new Ultra Micro Radian RC plane last night on a bright and sunny evening. While it was missing from my sight for what seemed like forever, in that helpless span of time I decided I needed to ensure this wasn't going to happen again with my next plane since this one was likely gone forever.

Thankfully, I was able to regain sight with it after spinning circles for a bit. What you will find in this video are a few ideas I applied literally to the surfaces of this RC Plane.

PV: I know some of you have tons more experience doing this than me, so if this is child's play compared to what you do, please feel free to share your expertise

This is the highest I have taken my UMX Radian on video (I am guessing at least 500 plus feet) and I decided to keep the video shown below pretty raw. It includes some pretty funny parts that show the interaction between my camera woman and myself....but mostly her lol:

This is the first "Flight and glide" video I have made post-crash with my Ultra Micro Radian onto my neighbor's roof. The cause is unknown, but after I crashed my UMX Pitts on video the cause seemed similar. I put fresh batteries in my DX6i and I haven't had a problem since with any of my planes.
