Had a great time at the 31st annual MidAm Electric event yesterday. I got to meet up with Jim Young and compare planes. His is a fair amount prettier than mine... but both fly great.

The MidAm is run by Keith Shaw and Ken Myers. Two of the founding fathers for electric flight in this area. There were quite a few outstanding models and everything was electric. The quietest airshow you could go to!

Here's Keith starting a demo with his Miles SparrowJet.

Here's another pict of his Moeller Stomo and SparrowJet. (The Stomo has an 85 in wing span)

Default Meet George

Meet George. He likes long walks in the woods, climbing trees and jumping out of planes.... Maybe he's the wrong man for the job, but he has accepted the new position of Waco pilot.

He started as a Williams Brothers 1/8 scale bust. I painted him up and glued him on what I'm using to lock in the pull out battery tray.

For a second there, I thought you'd mistakenly included a photo of me!

One more picture from the MidAm... A one point landing with my Waco.

There are lots of great pictures from the event over on RcGroups.

I've added a few more details. Some panel lines for the top of the wing, a step for the pilot and some engine parts.

Some 1/4 balsa painted light grey and toothpicks painted silver for additional engine parts.

A step for the pilot.

I don't think I've ever shown the bottom of the plane.

I'm calling this one done. Time to just fly and enjoy it!

Default Yearly Update...

First the bad news. Jim Young is no longer selling kits. I guess that means I have a collectors item now. There is some talk of him maybe letting someone else cut and sell his designs, but nothing definite.

Now the good news. My Waco is still flying. It lands so softly and is so docile in the air... This last weekend I ran my second event. (I am now the club's contest director.) The local paper came out and got some great photos.

Congrats on your nice WACo. I have never heard of a bad flying WACO of any scale, built up or foam. I have had way too much fun flying my Dynam foam WACO, it can do wild aerobatics yet fly as docile and scale-like as you please.

Yep, this one too... Mild if you want and slows down to almost a crawl for landing... But crank up the rates and it will do any scale aerobatic moves you want. It's not a 3D plane, but does "Normal" aerobatic maneuvers with ease.

Also... The kit is available again from Manzano Laser Works. I think most of Jim's planes will be available there.
