Well, after 2 years of use, I lost my Wing Dragon Sportster
It was converted to brushless and I loved it, especially to make aerial video.

So I'm now looking at my next plane. Obviously I have loads of spare parts so another wing dragon would be ideal, but should I look at one already 2.4GHz brushless or buy an old one and convert it?
Any other planes similar to the wing dragon that I could consider?

I am still considering this, but first it is not widely available and secondly there are more popular plane out there now (like the AXN floater). But If I could find a Sporster V2 at a good price, I'd love one. I still don't think it is as successful as the first Sportster.

Google "Wing Dragon" and it brings up some UK suppliers who appear to have stock of the WD4 at around £85. Uk delivery seems less than £10 but I expect Ireland would be more.

Note these in the UK are the NiMH/brushed motor type rather than the rather better LiPo/brushless version pictured earlier in the thread.

I am going to purchase this plane tomorrow for my son, I have not flown a RC for around 20 years, since I flew a gasser with my dad. I have limited to no knowledge of flying electric but I do have a understanding of electric automotive technologies and I think I am up to date on the battery tech out there. I hope all this goes well.

Everything will go well, this is an excellent first plane, no building required, screw the tail in, 4 rubber band to hold the wing and you are flying

I was looking at the wing dragon 4, which is a four channel plane. I have read that it is under powered and the electronics are not the best, but it will just be a stepping stone. We also like that it is a pusher and looks like it would be a ok platform for FPV, but the plane would have to go on a diet because the original weight of the plane is 650 grams. I have read a lot about what quorneng has done with his plane and while I do not have the aeronautical knowledge he may have, I do have a great deal of knowledge on current battery tech, electronics, and line of sight transmission. In a few of his last post I saw on he plane build up to the max he talked about solar panels, and I have seen complete solar fight, but I do not think I would have the resources or know how to make this happen, plus my power draw may be to high cause I till like a bit of performance. Well I hope this give you an ideal of what I am looking for.

Fly it stock first and then when you are bored upgrade it to brushless (loads of help on rcgroup and wattflyer to do this). It is a whole different plane after and I really enjoyed flying it for the past 2 years.

I agree with yannc. The stock brushed/NiMH WD4 is perfectly adequate and you will learn a lot but do not expect it to lift any extra weight without a motor/battery upgrade.
The "electronics" are ok as well. Still use my TX and RX regularly (over 2 years) & have never given any trouble.

Like I said I have flown a two channel nitro about 20 years ago, but all it did was turn right and left, up and down, and run wide open till it ran out of fuel. I do not know how much more of a challenge it will be to have to deal with a throttle and aileron, but I am sure it will make it easier to dodge things that are in your path, or bring it down and be able to throttle down.

I was looking at the older one, and I almost bought it today, but then I started to see that the new one had a few of the upgrade, I would want to put in it. It was also lighter with a larger wing span, the only thing I would change later would be the TX and the battery in the future. My son was going to get this with the rest of his x-mas money but I would have to foot the rest of the cost. I want him to have a hobby he will enjoy and I think the newer plane would be a better buy. 46" ArtTech 2.4Ghz Wing-Dragon Sporter I just don't know how well the tail would hold up.

I wanted to get this one after I lost my Wind Dragon Sportster V1, but shipping cost to Europe were too high and I could only find one provider.
I haven't seen much discussion about the V2 but it seems like a very good plane to me.
The tail can be reinforced if you are worried about it, I had a CF rod running in mine. All the mods to reinforce the plane are documented on either rcgroups or wattflyer.

That is to bad, I lived in Germany back in 1997 to 2000, and I found that things I did here where a lot more expensive than thing here, but a very beautiful and love the autobahn, we need one of those here in the US. LOL

Ok hope to have nice weather to try the first flight with the WD v2, all me and my son have done so far is taxi, we think we have the wheels rolling straight, and all the flight controls straight. We have set the rudder, elevator, and aileron on the last hole for the least movement, I believe we have the plane balance when I hold it right in the middle of the wing, is that right? The plane seems to have plenty of thrust, and I have taped the wings, hope we are ready, wish us luck. LOL
