It would be better to just remove it than to wrap it together and tape it if it is flapping in the breeze and not soldered. A lot of 'noise' could be generated from the 'loose connection.'

I had a cat bite off a foot of my Zagi rx antenna on my old Hitec AM 3 channel SS and it flew perfectly with not a glitch for yrs!

Splice it with solder and put some 1/16" shrink tube over the joint.

You can also cut it to within 2" of the receiver and solder on one of the base loaded antenna (such as the Berg unit).
