Bernard reports that he has received the 2 new GWS ESCs from Bill Stevens and will be soldering on the Deans connectors.

Thanks again for the ESCs Bill! We definitely appreciate your continued support.

Frank and all WAA-08 fellow pilots,
Yes it has been a great year for our SQuiRT, she's covered a lot of territory, thanks to every one's outstanding support and enthusiasm.
While making out the WAA-08 Flight Award Certificates I've really enjoyed seeing all the fun you guys have been having, what a great adventure Frank has created and what a daunting task it has been for him to keep the journey ongoing. He has been doing an incredible job. We truly appreciate all he has done for us.

BTW, a correction needs to be made for who is the "Most Senior Female Pilot", we now have Carole Bershers who willingly admitted she is 68, (sorry Judy Kitson)

Also, we do not have an age for our "2010 Most Junior Female Pilot", Brandi Stevens, but judging by her photoggraph we must assume she is our youngest pilot for this year.

The 2010 Collage is in the works, it will be awhile before I can post how it can be ordered.
So it was a great year and 2011 will continue to make the SQuiRT's journey an "Epic Adventure"
Happy New Year,
Don

I too her up for two nice 5 min flights. Would be longer in the summer, but dern'it it's cold. Nice sunny day, no winds but dog gone cold. I dont think it got above about 31 degrees. But the little Squirt did it's thing anyway, cold air and all. Did a few loops but nothing else as I felt it needed to be a safe flight above all so no fancy stuff. Both landings were light and fluffy as I expected.

Was sure great to participate, and what a feeling to hold and fly a plane I know has been across the country and in so many hands. And to sign the crate along with the other 254 pilots.

Thanks Frank and all the officials.:p

That's fantastic news! Congratulations on your successful flight! Looking forward to your photos.

Only one more pilot to go in the Seattle area and then the SQuiRT starts heading back east.

Default Last flight of 2010, first flight of 2011

I had the pleasure and honor to be on the sticks for the SQuiRT's final flight of 2010 in Renton, WA yesterday afternoon. And then today, I was present with camera in hand for the first flight of 2011 with Chuck D aka Sabrehawk at the controls. What a fabulous experience to be part of this great project!

Thank you Frank and to everyone else who participated before me who have all contributed to make this project a success.

PS - I tried to attach some photos but could not get them to upload. I sent them to Frank via email so maybe he can post some of them.

Thanks for the update Doug! And congratulations on your successful flight. Don will be forwarding your flight certificate shortly.

I also tried posting the pics but there seems to be some security issue stopping me from posting them. Stand by.

Default The Journey Home Begins...

The SQuiRT has finally begun her journey back east. After seeing all four corners of the US after 2.5 years on the road, she has started her easterly, albeit winding way back home.

She is now with pilot #258 Steve C of Ellensburg, WA.

Breaking news.

Pilot #258 Steve C of Ellensburg, WA has flown the SQuiRT with four of his club mates. His flight also breaks for the coldest temps flown. It was 14 degrees.

Love the skis! I've got a feeling those will be required more than once as the SQuiRT travels the mountain west in the winter months.

Good job on a very nice looking poster Don. I'm looking forward to seeing it hanging on my wall.

Looking at the pictures from Washington.....I can't believe that guy's flying with no gloves on. My hands are getting cold just looking at him

Thanks offtom, yeah it reminds me of the Chicago Bears players that play in jerseys without sleeves, YIKES.

The collage design is exactly like the 2008 and 2009 versions. I kept the same style and size so they could be placed alongside each other for continuity.

Latest news on the SQuiRT. She's stuck in WA with pilot #258 due to weather.

The storm last night shut down airports and caused the meeting Steve was to attend in the Tri-Cities to be canceled. I have commitments every night until next Wednesday as well as all day Sunday. I do have a thin slice of time on Saturday when we will try to meet in Yakima.

Breaking news:

SQuiRT arrived in Richland, WA just amid a driving rainstorm. Good news, it's not snow.
3 generations of family pilots are at the ready when the weather cooperates - then off to Spokane.

Frank,
That's gret news!!!

BTW, four 2010 WAA-08 Photo Collage prints have been ordered and are in the mail.

One is going to Dave Mathewson, AMA President. He has the 2008 and the 2009 versions hanging up in his AMA Office in Muncie and is looking forward to placing the 2010 version alongside the other two.

Winds today ranged from 20 to 60 + mph. Looks like we will have wind or strong breezes for several days, and this little plane does not look like it will take the wind very well. Cold doesn't slow me down for flying -- but wind does. -- Hey wait -- maybe we could set a record -- what's the highest winds SQuiRT has been flown in?

KEPR (TV News) will probably interview Danny (pilot 260) my 14 year old son tomorrow. I told them that the flight will probably be this weekend if the weather is suitable.
Like others have said -- this is not the best time of year to fly in the NW -- but we'll get it flown -- if we have to tie a string to it and kite it.

I heard a clicking down stairs and when I investigated I thought I heard SQuiRT changing "there's no place like home". could it be??

Picture attached is Steve exchanging Squirt with me at the hobby shop in Yakima.

Default Weather could not have been better (In January)

The weather could not have been any better this time of year. Light winds, more sunshine than we've had in months, and the temp was high 40's. First flight was myself, my son, and then my father. Then we let other members of the Miniature Aircraft Association fly. KEPR news was there and interviewed Danny and shot the first flight.
The Tri-City Herald has a pretty nice article today. http://www.tri-cityherald.com/2011/0...e-part-in.html They also had a large photo in the paper version of the paper.

Well, now it will be off to Spokane. Hope to move it soon.

Scott,

That's awesome! So glad the weather was so wonderful for you all and we certainly appreciate the getting the word out about model aviation and the Wings Across America 2008 adventure in your local news and two online newspapers. Excellent work.

And congratulations on your successful flights! It sure is great to see three generations of your family participating in this wonderful sport. And I'm glad they got the chance to participate in WAA-08 also.
