Default Somebody buy this and tell me if I want it...

Has anyone seen this:

[URL="http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__28264__Armstrong_Whitworth_F_K_10_Quadruplane_95 0mm_PNF_USA_Warehouse_.html"]

It looks like the typical Hobby King white-edged foamie, but it's certainly different from your average plane.

Apparently this model never caught on, and they are vague about when it was introduced, if it was ever actually used, etc., but I can't help thinking that it would make a neat addition to my hanger. I bet you wouldn't see many of these at any meet.

I may just break down and buy it, but I'd like to hear from someone who has actually seen and flown it.

Here's a picture, if my link doesn't work:

No thanks...

I would suspect VERY poor performance - just as the full scale. LOL!

Yeah, seriously!

I know there are very good, aerodynamic reasons that these kind of planes never caught on, but I sure am attracted to uniqueness and just over-all oddity.

Oh well...

Rob, thats the reason why you want it right there. You don't want it for its flight performance, its 3D capability, or because its the most popular around. You want it because you know when you put it on the ground at the field, everyone is going to look, and appreciate it. No one else will have one, and you getting it up, around, and back, is a bigger challenge than their flat foamy, or semi-scale foam warbird etc.

I've always hated it when a club member we have complains that I "have the wrong plane". Wrong for who? I love my airplanes and have each one for one reason or another.

I'd consider one of the cheapo flight gyro sets for it, it would help a lot in something that 'wrong' !

I say go for it man.

I hadn't thought of that! A gyro setup might be a really good idea.

I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and order it. I might wait for a few initial reviews to come in. I just think it'd be cool!

Woodall you missed out 9/28 this was a freebie for a order of 150 dollars at HK. They have random freebies, but you have to go to their site for them. They are random when it comes up. The USA site does not do this.

Bummer!

I end up buying a lot of stuff off the International and the USA site, but I've never gotten a freebie of any kind!

I'm not completely sure what I'd do with a 10S battery, though...

I'd be curious about the shipping costs. There is a DHC Beaver (Kenmore) with a listed ship weight of 4950 grams which is there max rate (if I read correctly) from China. Shiiping is almost the cost of the plane. Not available yet in USA warehouse. Shipped to mid Florida.

Ya it is random what you get and when it pops up for a free item if you read that thread that I posted.

Just received a very cool gyro 3 axis
stabilization system from Bluelight that I will be testing in several different planes. Www.bluelight-tech.com $56.00

So far, documentation is excellent. Beaver should not be twitchy though.

This is in the US warehouse, but shipping from Hong Kong is typically outrageous. I order small parts and lightweight tools often from Hong Kong, but I only order big stuff from the US warehouse.

I would think this would be a nice slow flying airplane. I have a Sopwith Triplane and this looks almost like it with a fourth wing. The tripe is a nice flyer. The reason this airplane did not catch on when built there were better WARPLANES already flying. This plane was probably too slow and stable to dogfight. Just guessing but I would say it does not need gyro.

Well, Gramps found me one for sale at a decent price, so I bought it. Thanks Gramps!

I should have it in a couple of days, and I'll post my impressions then.

No problem glad I could help you out since I posted about how HK gave it away as a freebie back a few weeks ago least I could do.

Hope you do a flight report once you get it flight ready the plane does have a cool factor.
