Default Foxbat 12ft E-powered Sailplane

Ok so I am not quite done yet but wanted to start sharing some pics of my Peter Goldsmith design Foxbat Sailplane.

This is a bit over 2 months work of work most nights after work and weekends when nothing else is going on like flying at the field.

I am a relatively new builder and this is just the plans and wood, no sort of instructions but so far things have come along well. I am at a stopping point now waiting on my prop hub and spinner so I can tell how I want to taper the front of the fuse to blend with it.

Longest wing I have ever built by over double so I was terrified it would not end up straight. One small error near the center would compound exponentially on the way out to the tips so I so super careful to get it all lined up. I turned out better than I had hoped! Covering was fun for such a long bird. Lots and lots of Ultracote Park Lite covering, very easy to work with.

Anyway, more pics to follow as hopefully the rest of my parts will show up soon

This one calls for an E-flite Power 15 and 12x8 prop so I am going with that. At least initially anyway. Pete won several contests with that setup so cant argue that.

So FedEx says my remaining parts ore out for delivery. Should be able to get the fuse finished and covered tonight! Will get the rest completed this weekend, and fine tune everything next week. Should be flying before Christmas!

It should moving quickly then Bill. I'm waiting on a new plane that was shipped three weeks ago. I think they sent it from California via Pony Express.

Pony express it would have gotten there already - if I remember my history they guaranteed 1 week from Chicago to the west coast.

...Or was that St. Louis..?

Got most of my electronics in today. Final placement of the servo tray tomorrow night and get all the wires tucked away where I want them.

Power supplied by an Eflite power 15 on 3s, with a carbon fiber 12x8 folding prop and aluminum spinner. Hitec digital servos and Futaba radio gear. Covered with Ultarcote Park lite covering.

All up weight is only 57 ounces (1615 grams)! Hope to maiden next Saturday

I think I am going to add an ounce in the nose, or maybe a tad bit bigger battery.

This is awesome. When I flew RC with the club gliders were my favorite planes. Of course at the time electrics were not that much in use so I had power pods with IC engines. Enough fuel to get altitude and then just fly. Oh I did have some high start launches that I got some terrific flights out of and spoilers are handy when you need to land because some one points out the batteries may be getting low.

By the way I like this big bird of yours.
