Build Review $100 EDF Semi Scratch Anything Goes! Contest

So at Chellie's suggestion, I'd like to begin the next build contest. I'm following her lead here, so this is a little cut and paste, but with a twist as we'll go EDF instead of last contests twin motor focus. Start date is now!

1. plans are ok to use.

2. pre cut short kits are ok as opposed to a full kit

3. all building materials are ok to use, as not to limit availability of material to be used in countries where some materials may be limited

4. 150 days to get her done. So let's go with an ending date of March 2, 2015. That's a Monday, so you'll have the weekend to fly and post the video if it gets that close!

5. EDF powered Aircraft. Any size, any number.

6. $100.00 build limit, not to include power system or electronics

7. Enter ---- $100 EDF Build Contest then the Name of your plane for the title of your build thread.

8. Ok To Frankenstein old Aircraft parts for up to 50% of the Build

Good luck to all!

Here is a running list of links to the entries. Alphabetical by user name:

Bill G's Comet

Bill G's Sipa Mini Jet

Crispy's Batwing

mclarkson's JetBat

quorneng's DeHavilland Vampire

quorneng's EE Canberra

If you join in or I've missed you, please shoot me a PM and I'll add you.

Great Job Mech on the EDF Contest Thread I could have not done better Myself I will be Building a 40" Flying Wing, With a 70mm EDF, the wing will be made from EPP Foam, this will be my first attempt at using a hot wire to cut the foam wings out with, it will most likely be a fixed wire at one end, and following a template at the other end, Wish me luck, I am willing to try almost anything once Take care and good Luck to all the Scratch Builders

Sounds like fun, I might be tempted to dust down my building board.
If I have a go it would probably be some form of scale 'secret project type' such as those found on the 'Luft 46' web site, done in old school balsa because that's all I know.

Hi JPF if you can build with balsa, Foam is 10 Times easier to build with I have built a lot of balsa Planes, and Building with Foam is much Quicker, Hope to see a Cool Build from you, Take care, Chellie

I'm actually programmed out to return to Ukraine !! So I don't expect to be back before mid January ... but given my build speed - I might just make it by deadline.

I've always fancied EE Lightning ... but the very thin sweep-back wing and fuselage has always put me off ... will have a gander at various plans - see what I fix on ...

Nigel,

Here's the plan for a small freeflight version of the lightening. this one flies really well, i have one hanging ion the wall in front of me!

It could be scaled up for RC ducted fan.

If anyone wants plans of jets give me a yell, i've got a fair collection.

Ugh, the first 2 contests I don't enter, now this one, I can't. Well, can't complete anyway. The project I just started (2 pices cut out) would be perfect. Posting Pictures would be difficult and there is a 99% chance of NOT flying it by March. But figuring where I am (NAVY Deployment) it might be a much needed escape from reality.

Hi Bronc! Hope all is well out there. Sorry about the time frame being an issue. I don't know when you'll be back, but maybe if you can't pictures now, you could just save them and post them when you get back? And if you need a couple extra weeks if it's that close, I'm sure we can extend a little. You've got talent with these things. I'd hate if you couldn't participate.

JPF, I printed out and assembled that plan for the lightning II. I think you could build it as is and use the 28mm EDF and guts out of an UMX Habu. It is about the right size.

Thanks for joining in, Bob. A beautiful bird! (Hey, is that a Horten flying wing on the wall in the first pic?!) I'll add a link to your build thread when you get it started. Welcome aboard and good luck!

Thank-you.
Yup that's my "5EZP" Ho-229 hanging out in the background. She need some work but she still flies but just not as fast as she used to. She really shimmies at full throttle now.

Checking through my stash and I come across an old West Wings Hawker Hunter balsa kit that I bought second hand years ago off eBay for $20. Now this maybe doesn't meet the rules because it is a 'full kit' but there again it is very much an old school builders kit, just a box of balsa sticks and a few die-cut parts. What's the thoughts on if this qualifies?
I might just build it anyway even if it falls outside the rules as it's been gathering dust too long.

'A box of balsa sticks and a few die cut parts' sounds like a short kit to me. Unless there are any objections, I think it'll be a welcome addition to the contest. It's fine with me. The winneris ultimately decided on by the voters. Good to have you on board JPF! I'll add a link when you start your build thread.
