I turned 62 in June. My department and MY job was eliminated 25 days before that. I've been through that same scenario too many times now. Life is much simpler NOT working for companies that don't give a damn about loyal employees so I said "F" that and retired. Good thing I achieved zero debt (including mortgage) 3 months prior. More time now to build the pile of kits I've hoarded over the years.

I'm 70 and been retired for 9 years and built lotsa aeroplanes etc since then.
I worked for the gvmnt and just got up and walked out one day after putting up with bs for some time. I was asked to re-consider but I had already had a taste of not waking to an alarm and it felt good.

They seem to think us knowledgeable old farts are expendable. I've worked at a major university for the last 8 years. Watch the movie "Idiocracy" and you'll see exactly where we're headed. It's not going to be pretty. I hope and pray that I'm dead before these brain dead idiots start to take over the world. Trust me, we're doomed.....

I have to work with many different nationalities ... but one thing I find common.
The most knowledgeable and able people are the older. The younger seem to have the idea that all will fall into place for them. So often I find no sense of 'drive' ... lack of commitment ... but when as an older person you try to 'jivvy' them up ... you get some stupid replies !!
