Default Hacker Antares Upgrade, Advice please!

Hi Guys,
Some time ago I was given an unwanted Hacker Antares sailplane which I would like to update and get in the air again. The model spans 110" and all up weight is reckoned at about 1.8 Kg. The airframe is in pretty good condition but it needs some attention in the engine room. It is powered by a "540" type can motor driving the prop through a gearbox. The spec says Sprint 600 Turbo BB. Power was supplied by 7 cell 8.4 v nicad packs. However as my other models all use Lipos and brushless motors I want to upgrade the Antares.
Any guidance on the best setup would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Keith
