CA Models FUNKY .40???
#1

After hearing too many "Nobody builds kits anymore. Check out this E-Flite ARF..." I have finaly found an old (laser cut!) but very dusty Ca Models Funky .40!!!! Giant wing and massive control surfaces. Going brushless and doing much lightening. Looks like a cool plane!
I found a E-conversion thread on a different sight but there is still some holes in it. I am wondering if any Wattflyers have any input on this kit?
Just ordered a coulpe rolls of covering and I am getting anxious!
Any input would be great, THANKS, Rob

yea, you start getting this big and a nitro prop works well on larger electric motors.

Steve Awesome. You can not, will not find a motor that can match this one for price for punch. Pulling 1500 Watts on a HC 5000Mah 6s swinging a 13x10.
Very good motor
Bigben I ordered two for me and ono of my friend. We use it on a Hyperion Super Chipmunk .70e with a 80 A ESC, a 5S 4000 LiPo and a 14*7 prop. Huge amount of power. Takeoff at 2/3 throttle and infinite vertical climbs. Really great motot for the price, compared to the recommended Hyperion combo ! I'll get another one soon for my Hangar 9 Piper Pawnee (2m).

Dang Chellie, You are awesome! Now if I can only find my Hobbycity login and password.... I read some other posts where you write about the Rhino lipos, I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and get a pile of them. That will be much nicer that my hodge podge of different brands and weights I currently run. I am pretty sure I can take your word for it, besides, can the Chino Renegades be wrong? I'll bet y'all log a lot of flight time with your weater. Thanks again! Will post some pics when she is all wrapped up!

Hey Kev. I found her dusty and burried in a pile of arf's at THE GENTLE JUNGLE, in Alsip Il. Real cool place, more plane stuff than I have seen in one place anywhere. The owner (Mike) is a real nice guy. Interestingly enough, he has the RC planes covered and the other half of his store is birds, big ones little ones, all kinds. Amazing guy, he should have been born with wings.
The kit wasw made in Argentina but there is also a sheet of paper in there with US weights and measures: Fuse 54", wing 52",weight 3.75lbs, engine 40-50 2T. Also has some contact info: www.planesplus.com and [email protected] Ph#(630)904-5075, Plainfield IL. The website is more of a link page but if you drop them a line (Don Kanak), he might be able to hook you up.
Pretty light kit for the size, I am also lightening it up some myself. Should be a FUN fun flyer!

Your suggestions at hobbycity are waiting in my shopping cart. I do have one small problem however. I have a couple chargers that will only support up to 4s packs. And don't really want to buy a new charger (unless it flies...) Do you think I might be ok with these: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...0C_Lipoly_Pack
and a little bit faster prop?

(Use this motor with 4-6 cell Li-Poly packs and 11-12 inch props on planes up to 8 lbs flying weight.
Manufacturer suggests a 12 x 8 prop on 6 cells or 13 x 10 on 4 cells. )

Starting to look like a plane. Built a magnet/dowel battery hatch into the top which also gives me access to bolt the wing on from the top. May have to change the hatch around a bit to acomidate the battery, not much though if any.
Kit also comes with a clear cowl to set-up and a white fiberglass one to finish. I may just paint the firewall and motor mount and use the clear cowl! Most of the motor mounts I found were 5-6+ ounces so I decided to box one at about 1-2 ounces. Much cheaper too! Should not be long now! Biggest concern, my roll of blue covering is getting pretty thin

And Now, For my next Trick, Rc Plane Building Trick that is
I am going to attempt to make a bi Plane with a 72" W/S, it will look something like these 2 planes, a combination of the 2, I bought some cowls on ebay, 3.99 each, some 8.5mm carbon fiber square tube, some 6mm depron, I have the 9mm depron, the 6mm depron will be for the fuselage, it will be a boxed fuse, with flat 9mm wings, wish me Luck, Chellie

Ahhh, The Christen Ultimate! Sweet! I found my Axi2820/12 and am thinking of a giant 3 channel Blu-cor AP platform my next adventure!
Thanks again for the power system input. Got me some deep 14-15 and 16" props ordered. I will get some wattage form the 4s if it kills me, or puffs first
. Let me know how the hybrid goes?

DONE! Not much of a build thread, but you should definately have a few (quite) builds under your belt, if you can even find one of these.
Save for a few finishing touches(adding springs to the stressed landing gear) I think she is ready to maiden. Partialy charged (4.00vpc) 4s 5000Mah, 14x7apc and it lifts up out of my hand. Whew. I can't wait to see the regular at the hobby shop where I bought it, out at the field. I will remind him about when he scoffed and said "Have fun with your box of sticks!". Ohh, I will.... I will.....
I will report back with prop/amp numbers and AUW after I borrow my mother scale again. Out

Wow
Super nice Job Rob
It looks great, Just keep it under 100mph for the first few flights
I found a biplane that i want to make, it will have the tappered back wings like a Ultimate, I Like the longer fuselage that the super skybolt has, it will have wider wings, and larger rudder and elevator, wish me luck
Take care, Chellie

Well that's about it for this one. Rigged the LG with some steel fishing leader and some stainless springs. Should hold the weight pretty well. The whole LG rig is held to the fuse with 3 10-32 nylon bolt and nuts (don't want to use t-nuts, never get the broken bolt out).
She's pulling a hair under 600watts at just over 40amps with 14x7e prop and 4s lipo. Should be plenty to get her airborne. I will worry about balistic power at a later time. Thanks for looking, hope I may have helped someone out here! Rob
