that was actually one of the best jobs.

I loved driving the 6 wheeler up and down the 3.5 miles of undeveloped beach, all alone. There never was much trash. Just what washes up. The area people actually visited was fairly small, and for the most part, did a good job picking up after themselves.

Look for a bottle with a note in it. Way back in the 1950's, my Dad and I flew a Piper Super Cruiser to Mustang Island in Texas and landed on the beach to fish. I was walking down the beach, looking for a bottle with a note in it and found one. It was thrown in the ocean by a fellow from Canada and had his address on the back of a cigarette wrapper. No emergency, just wanted to know where the bottle was found so I wrote him a note and let him know.

I know anyone would be glad to hear from a Flying Monkey.

While no bottles have been found, that i know of...

I guess we did have a plane land on our beach last year (a big no no...).

It was one of those banner draggers, ran out of fuel. He dropped his banner and made a precautionary landing. As I was told, he had to fuel it up with a gas can, under the very close supervision of a DEP officer, who was all too ready to write him up (at best) if any fuel, or oil dripped on the sand.

If you're interested in doing freshwater. I'd read up on tank cycling, and follow those steps closely, it think I might have some instructions on http://wiki.fishelp.net (before I partially gave up on the site)

If you're having algae problems, well, 1. you're going to have algae, the natual process that evolves during your tank cycling produces large amounts of nitrate, which algae consome to help keep your tank in balance, so, unless you do a planted aquarium, its a part of the life cycle that needs to be there in some degree. Now, your water shouldnt be green, and you should be able to keep your glass clean by doing biweekly maintenance (after the tank is stable after a year or so, until then weekly)

If you're going out of town, I highly recommend getting a measuring spoon and leaving instructions on how much to feed and when. or if you have more complicated feedings, leave baggies of food, marked for each day you're gone.. I've done both with some success. The one time I left it up to someones judgement was bad news..

Anyway, if you want to ask any more questions, of if I forgot to explain something, let me know.. I can talk about fish almost as long as i can talk about helos !

-Tony

Oh -- I know all about cycling... My anglefish had lived for somewhere between 6 and 12 months before my father-in-law killed it - it was probably about the size of my hand when it died. Cycling wasn't my problem.

Yes, I had some live plants in the tank -- could that have somehow caused the algae problem?

I put the tank on the west wall of my game room (a reasonably large room). The only windows in the room are on the east wall -- there were four windows, and I always kept the blinds closed. I just couldn't figure out how to kill that darned algae...

How could she not like those sheets. I am sure if you let her know where to get them, she would buy at least one set. After all, she wants her Monkey to be happy.
