Cool tripe Degreen. That deer ol' girl looks nice too. And the fleamarket pilot looks good just use a good dog shampoo to get rid of the fleas. Lol

They looking interesting. All Green Models, I think, from Atlanta Hobby. They have a 50" WS Jenny as well as this one - also interesting, but a little big for the park I do most of my flying at.

The last thing I need is another airplane, but I really do like the WWI birds, so I'm thinking about getting another one. I also like the Slow Fly 250 series, especially the SE5a. Not sure which one I will end up getting first.

That 50" looks gorgeous. It is tempting - I think I have the motor and esc for it. BUT, I already have the old HL 50" Tiger Moth that I just recently built and have only flown once, so not sure I want another big one just yet.

I have been in the "mood" lately for some more WWI bipes - not good - going to cost me some money. I really like the little 250 series SE5a. Would have picked that one up today but the LHS did not have one in stock. So I guess I just haven't decided which way to go yet.

Wolfe the SE5a is a nice little plane (I have one). It goes together fast and flies well. If I can find my wife's camera I'll shoot you some pics. I have a "blue wonder" in mine and it's more than enough power. marty

Nice vidios, Degreen. I have the Jenny & GWS Pico Moth now. Used to have that Bristol Scout but it got wrecked when we moved recently. All these 250 planes fly so well when they are set up right. Yours are all especially nice - you do good work.

There is something about the SE5a that is special, though. I have the bigger GP version and the PZ version, but I do like that little one.

OH NO, don't make me sick by telling me you threw away the wrecked Bristol Scout. All my 250 planes are rebuilt wrecks. The Breguet 14 was made from a wrecked GWS Tiger Moth.

Actually, I gave it to one of the movers who expressed interest - I had plenty else to do at the time LOL, and I had been out of the hobby for about 5 years. I gave away/ threw away/ cheap sold about a dozen airplanes at the time. Fortunately I did keep another dozen or so just in case, and did end up coming back to flying.

Just ordered the GWS Stearman - haven't had one of those in a long time and always liked that plane

I would like to take this time to say "Happy Thanksgiving" to all my leather helmet, goggle and scarf wearing friends here on WW1 threads! I wish you all the best for this and up coming holidays. I hope everyone can enjoy your friends and families and give special thanks to the one thing we all enjoy........RC PLANES! Indeed my thoughts and prayers this holiday season are for my friends and fellow pilots here at Wattflyer as well as their families. I enjoy the thread very much (my favorite actually) and fellowship I find here with my WWI brothers. You Guys are the BEST! I wish you all well and your families too! May the Good LORD continue to bless us and our nation. Remember to keep Christ in Christmas and give thanks always. Don't forget to let us know what you are working on this winter. I have a couple of projects in mind (both WWI bipes). PS, with Christmas coming up I have been asked to think of what I want. Any suggestion that might help me decide? Of course it'll be some new WWI plane! All the Best Marty

Wow...Spads galore! Gotta love it...for all the ones being bought and built, might have a whole squadron in a few weeks! Appears the Allied front is getting heavy with really great planes!

The Fokker D.VII was undoubtedly the best aircraft of the First World War. I've read that the Fokker D.VII was the 'F-14' of it's time, and that was 96 years ago. WOW!!!
It's been said it made a mediocre pilot good, and a good pilot great.
The D.VII was noted for its ability to climb at high angles of attack, its remarkably docile stall, and its reluctance to spin. It could literally "hang on its prop" without stalling for brief periods of time, spraying enemy aircraft from below with machine gun fire.

Despite his involvement of it's development in late 1917, von Richthofen never flew it in combat, being KIA only days before the D.VII was deployed to the various Jagdstaffeln.

It must've been a great weapon of war, because the Fokker D.VII was the only German aircraft specifically mentioned in the terms of the armistice ending WWI, demanding that all examples were to be surrendered to the Allies at the conclusion of hostilities.

The DVII was indeed an excellent fighter and this was mainly down to its wing section.
Fokker's designer Reinhold Platz felt that bracing wires were untidy and difficult to set up so favoured unbraced cantilever wings with a strong spar.
The result was a rather 'thick' wing section compared to the thin under cambered ones favoured by the allies. Although not the original intention it gave all the later Fokker types excellent (for the period) aerodynamic characteristics and coupled with Fokker's undoubted flying skill & experience ensured his planes were at the forefront of the available technology.
And not all Fokker DVIIs were surrendered to the allies as required by the armistice - Fokker himself smuggled a train load out of Germany to Holland!

I've come to the conclusion (somewhat tongue in cheek) that Platz knew full well monoplanes were the future, but also knew that nervous pilots (their butts on the line) would not trust anything without two wings, so, on the DVII he stuck the bottom one on for optics. When his design genius was cemented. He ditched the bottom wing and the DVIII was born.
