None R/C use of a UBEC

Hi,
I've been doing a bit of searching around for info regarding UBECs and you guys here seem to know a fair bit about them.
From what I've gathered they're used as a method of supplying a consistent voltage/current to your R/C planes etc.
What I want to know is are they suitable for using in a none R/C application?
I require a consistent continuous 5v/5amp supply and it's hard to find AC/DC adapters that supply that which are a reasonable price, searching around and I found out about UBECs which seem like the answer. They seem cheap and can make use of a number of unused AC/DC adapters with various voltage and current ratings.
12V/3A (36W)
12V/1.5A (18W)
24V/0.55A (13.2W)
7.5V/1A (7.5W)
20V/4.5A (90W)
So, are UBECs safe to use with AC/DC adapters rather than batteries and which of those adapters would fit the bill?
I guess I'm looking for something that supplies more than 25W (5Vx5A) to cover for the less than 100% efficiency of the UBEC. I probably have others lying about that are over 25W in total, if not a 12V/3-4A adapter is certainly much cheaper to buy than a 5V/5A supply
