Default How much does your slow stick weigh?

I bought a set of flat depron wings and tail from Montogmeryliteflyers and even though I have yet to receive them, I was "going through" my slow stick to prepare for when they get here.

I noticed with alarm that my current slow stick with only one aileron servo (HS-81MG) weighs 20 oz!

The weight on the box says it should weigh a max of 15.5 oz....yikes...

I'm using a TP2410-09Y motor and 3s 1000ma lipo battery. The documention on Heads Up RC website says that with an 1170 or 1147 prop it will produce 24 oz of thrust.

How much does YOUR slow stick weigh?

And do you have any good suggestions for losing weight on these?

thanks,
bob

Mine weighs in right at 16 oz.

two hitec hs55's, tp 3s 1320mah lipo, HL 400xt motor, dynam esc.

That is with no exxesive tape on the wings and a bit of epoxy on the vertical stab due to a minor mishap.

weigh your alarm and 3rd servo separate and see how much weight that adds.

Fireman bill...

I do have a fair amount of strapping tape on the wings to strengthen them.

The 3rd servo weighs 20 gms with the wire/control horn.

Also just as an aside..."I noticed with alarm" was my way of saying that I noticed, and I WAS alarmed...lol sorry for the confusion.

LOL, Thought maybe it was one of those locator type things...

I have found that with the rods provided and a couple strips of good tape (not the GWS suplied stuff) ther isn't much need for any more. that wing is pretty durable.

the third servo just adds over half an ounce. How much does that motor weigh? I'm at work so won't be able to compare it to the 400xt til later. Maybe the motor is the heavy part then

Mine hits 21 oz! I contribute most of that to the X-gear, packing tape and my electrifly 3S lipo is almost 4oz alone. It still flies great on a 11x4.7 prop.
I was eying the tail feathers from Montogmeryliteflyers too. How did everything work out?

Pickle,
I never did get the stuff from Montgomery...I got a 3D foamie instead and just use the slow stick for putting around.

They were out when I ordered and in the interim I decided against it. They were very courteous and refunded my money asap...

That's why I got the slow stick too, to putter around on while I build others, but those tail feathers are calling my name

Wow! That's heavy.
Mine weighed in at 13 ounces.
Before the camers and mount (: Then she's more like where your is.

I seldom fly it it for "fun" anymore. It's mostly flown for AP/AV.

Oh yeah, she's hardly SlowStick either. The one piece aluminum replacement fuselage and mounting gear is all that's left SlowStick.

Mine was a heavy little beastie too. She weighed in at 19 ounces! I even started calling her 'Porky'.

My setup was 400XT outrunner, generic Chinese ESC, 2 GWS 'Mini' servos (heavy!!), a pair of relatively light plastic/foam wheels/tires and an 8 cell 1100mA NiMH pack. Also flew the remainder of the plane stock.

Mine weighs about 35 oz. With the generous wing area the weight isnt no issue. If your motor is on the weak side then the weight issue is a problem. I used fiber based tape with carbon fiber rods on the TE and LE for strength. All this makes the wing considerably stronger but adds that nasty thing we call 'ounces'.

Man that Mega Stick is too cool! 7lbs.

Why is the upgrade so heavy? I would of thought it would be lighter. Do you have an AUW? That's kind of disappointing. I still think I will get the tail feathers here in the near future and will probably try full span ailerons on the stock wing.

never weigh mine and its no more now, but i am sure it was heavier then yours, i used a 4 cell A123 1100mah batt on mine and it had big mini servos that looks the size of strandard ones.

34 oz. 480 eflite, 2100mah lipo, but the wing is very heavy because I reinforced it for that power with 5mm foam, epoxy, CA, and tape, and carbon fiber. its so heavy that a 400 would fly it better without the reinforced wing and a 1 inch smaller prop and 1300mah lipo.

Dude -- the Slow Stick has no weight limit! It's truly a "heavy lifter"!

I use mine to haul a digital camera 1000 feet in the air, to take aerial photographs... Just make sure you reinforce the wing.

To answer your question: I think the heaviest Slow Stick I've ever flown was my (stock) 400 speed brushed motor powered, NiMh battery powered, 6-ounce camera carrying, 26.9 ounce Slow Stick.

Guy,

I've never weighed my Slow Stick, but with the fiberglass epoxy resin reinforced wing ( just the dihedral joint ) eflite 450 outrunner, 2100 mAh 3S lipo. it's bound to weigh more than the stock unit. Oh, I added ailerons just for better control. Each time i take it out i find something else that could use improving! Got to work on the wing shudder on high speed dives!

do the wing reinforcement with the foam, and CA, and industrial pakaging tape. make no dyhedral and skip the epoxy

My slowstick has gradually gotten heavier as it has been repaired/repainted. I started of at around 16 ounces running GWS350 motor and 7 cell NiMH and have gradually grown to around 19 ounces running a GWS400 motor with 1550 MaH Lipos. Can't say I've noticed much difference in the flying characteristics, if anything it seems more stable with the greater weight. Still crashes just the same though (pilot error):o
