Cool Combat - is this all about destroying planes?

Used to be combat was about cutting ribbons that were trailed behind a plane. But I have seen so many videos of foamies being ripped to pieces.

Is it all about destroying planes now? Ribbons gone?

I have never flown combat so I was wondering.

It is hilarious flying combat with the intent of 'taking down' your mates plane.

Our club has the occasional session usually with TekSumo wings.

Years ago you would never dream of doing it because equipment was so expensive. (Receivers, servos etc) but the only damage that seems to occur is broken props and sliced wings.

Never worry about ribbons nowadays, just full-on combat.

Both happen at my club. A more organized foamy streamer combat every Tue and then there are 3 or 4 guys who want to "Formation" fly. This is really an excuse to trash some planes while the rest of us watch the carnage. I must admit that I enjoy watching the carnage.

We have an " old school" group who on Mondays still fly the corrugated plastic nitro driven combat planes with streamers.

We also have guys who get together with their home made and cheap F-22 pusher props.

We did slow stick combat most sundays for a year or two. Both streamers and without. Its a hoot

slow stock prop reversal. it flies! easily! 543 watt dual motor bipe slow stick. push-me-pull-you. 242 watt 3 channel slow stick. 365 watt mini ultra stick. 415 watt mini contender. 810 watt ultra stick .25e. 220 watt alpha 450 sport (retired).

Face it. Nothing more fascinating and profiting for humans than a good train wreck, car crashes, real plane crashes, carnage, and mayhem. The bigger the better.

Think about it. Soon we will be like the Romans and feed people to wild animals and sell a lot of tickets doing it. Remember when boxing use to be a sport based on rules? Today we have we put bare knuckle fightesr in a fenced ring area so they cannot escape, and no rules called Ultimate Fighters. As long as animals are not injured, OK to beat or kill humans in the name of entertainment and sport.

Typically the foamies flying in full contact combat are dollar tree foam or something similarly cheap. The amount of energy one of those have hitting hte ground allow for reuse of the electronics as long as you protect wiring and such from the dreaded prop strike.

I have seen guys at events like SEFF flying the same combat planes for several years now.

I have done it a few times and while it is indeed a hoot I cannot seem to keep up with my plane with all the distractions. I'm not very good at it to say the least.

When we all fly TekSumos in combat we generally finish up flying someone elses' plane as they all look the same.
It can be very funny.
So, firemanbill, you are not alone.
