AUW is just under 24 oz (23.8) with battery.
No weight was required to balance - that's a first - put battery in and secured it all the way aft and it balanced just a tick nose heavy. 3S 1300 mAh 35C.
9 x 4 Zinger wood prop. Flew pretty quick in level flight with half throttle.

Finished up the final details this afternoon. My first successful build and fly since a pair of Carl Goldberg Ladies back in the 90's

While I did not get to try the Cub with the gyros ON, a club member did let me fly his T-28 twice! Did takeoff on second flight, but did not trust myself on the landing as my arms were ready to fall off after doing weed control around the runway this morning. First time on the sticks of a warbird - I may be almost ready to maiden that P-38 by myself!

Default Oops...

Long story short:
Out with the Admiral RX600SP- in with a Spektrum AR400, maybe an AR636 later.
DX6 is on the way.
Broken battery door and landing gear repaired, prop shaft R&R next. The 9x4 wood prop was a good choice over a 9x6E.

New motor went in yesterday, finished some other minor repairs, wood prop went back on, and got it set up in DX6.
Got a flight with her this morning and had a second set of eyes and hands get her in the air as well as set up some mild expo and trim.
She left the ground at half throttle and friend did On turn in patter at altitude and says "...here ya go - fly your airplane"
Needed no trim - finished the battery and landed without incident.
Then everyone was up and coming to check it out.

Thanx, Don.
Got 2 more flights with it this morning - no help, calm air and 2 nice landings.
That olive drab hides her real good when you get below the mountains on final....but all ended well.
Many more "ooh's and aaah's" after landing such a cool little gal!
Time to call Callie...

Callie Graphics on the way, to finish dressing her up, as she has proven herself to be a great flyer and popular at the field. Was actually planning to sell it once I got it done but Just having too much fun with her.
Still want to put a gyro in it - but she's so small it is really a calm wind flyer and probably might get the same results plugging in some 70% low rates.
Here she waits her turn as I had just finished a battery in the PT-17 and she was next.

Default Callie graphics to the rescue

The 1/8 scale was a perfect fit for this 52” stand-off Cub. With the ailerons, dummy cowl and engine, wood prop and Wing struts she almost passes for an L-19.
Removed my printer made decals and got the real thing from Callie Graphics.
She’s a real attention getter for such a small fry, but not real tame in the wind. Got into some frisky stuff a few times and she’s a handful, fortunately no damage since the oops on takeoff after the maiden.

I did get to try the L-Bird with the gyro today. Reinstalled the Admiral RX600SP and bind with DX6 as per the videos, even got it to bind with switch I wanted for Combo C. (On/Off gyro) as I did not want to test it on takeoff and really did not want recovery mode. Everything laterally behaved but she did begin to oscillate in pitch, gradually increasing. Spent a little more time trimming and got the same results, so landed without it and assume I just need to back off the elevator gain an 1/8 th turn and try again.
SHould have built it so I don’t have to remove the wing to access reciever, but oh well. Once she’s right it should be a nonissue.
AUW is only 24oz. And she shows all the negative aspects of real flight: P factor, gyroscopic precession, adverse yaw and torque. Add overbanking in steep turns and hold your breath... But get her trimmed in calm wind and she flies hands off. I may back off the throws a bit also, but she still has the wood prop intact since her maiden.

Went a bit more than 1/8 turn on elevator. Leveled her in flight after takeoff and turned on the gyro and she took off to the right but after leveling again and a little more trimming she behaved very well. Using low rates and the gyro really tamed the flitting little Cub. Even landed with the gyro on and really had a nice time of it

Took it out this morning - got one flight and was having to make trim adjustments that did not seem normal. I did get her stable and smooth and just did some low and slow close patterns. Decided to make the necessary linkage adjustments to pull out some of the trim as the surfaces were noticeably “counterproductive”.
Put in a new battery and took off - a wee bit to soon accidentally. I made changes to the ailerons and nothing else.
Oops - saved the nasty stall and snap roll somehow. One guy says “that could have been a whole lot worse”
Only broke my wood prop and the cheap plastic tail wheel I wanted to replace anyway.
So I’ll take pics’ tomorrow and see if my tweaks cleaned up her flying any.

Default Manual

I know I have it, but am at work. I will check when I get home and make you a copy. Pretty simple kit to assemble, but youíll want to have it.
Hang tight, help on the way.

BTW, mine has probably 100 flights on it and it even went to the Warbirds Event here in October. She made a great showing.

Couldnít resist the photo opportunity. Intended to fly after work but wind and work interfered.
