Default "Five Easy Piece" Dassault Rafale

Got a chance to work on the Rafale pattern today. This is just the first mock-up. The canopy and dorsal structure is out of place just now. Next is the dorsal panel so the canopy and upper fuse pieces will notch into the dorsal panel. Looks like she's 44" long overall from tail fin to nose. Thirty-two inch Delta wingspan.

Continuing to modify the Rafale to increase the frontal exposure of the propeller so as not to starve it for air. I use a disk with a 6.5" diameter to check prop clearance.

Its getting there Looking good Bob, Try building with white depron 6 mm and 9 mm Foam, the blue cor foam is Ok, but the Depron is much stiffer, and will give you a super nice build, the blue cor foam tends to wafer when building, where the depron stays nice and Flat. try using 5 and 30 min epoxy too, I buy epoxy from Harbor freight tools, it works great and does not turn yellow. Before I Forget Wipe the Depron with Rubbing alcohol, that will remove the release agent that is used when making the foam, and tape and paint will stick better to the foam.

OUCH!
I checked out the white Depron prices. Way to rich for me. I smash them too much and too often to afford the nice stuff.
I built my "5EZP" F-18C with some white Depron from Grayson Hobby. It was pretty nice foam. But also too expensive.
Also my short attention span and need for immediate gratification makes using epoxy impossible. So I guess it's still hot glue and burnt fingers for me.
Dow blue-core can be wavy but the Owens-Corning Pink fan-fold is flat and around here it's also cheaper.
I'll have to try the alcohol treatment. Thanks.

Got in the truck to head to the field to maiden the "Five Easy Piece" (X2) Rafale and the truck won't start. Plenty crank but no fire. So maybe tomorrow. Better weather tomorrow anyway.

Glad it was a easy and cheap Fix Your plane flies good, Looks to need more thrust, Try a 7X6 APC Prop, that should really wake it up

GH Super Mega Jet V2 Brushless Outrunner Motor

[SuperMegaJet] $34.99 by Marbris Dillard Date Added: Monday 03 March, 2014 All I can say is OMG! This motor pushed my dollar tree foam board scratch build to 94 mph, logged on a voltron GPS logger. I have been flying the supersonic motor which flew my plane very well on a 6x5.5 apc e. But this smjv2 is a whole other animal! Vertical is unlimited, and turns a 7x5 prop all day with no heating problems at all. My setup is smjv2, 3S 2200 30C lipo, detrum 60 amp esc. I have never tried a 4S with this motor, and honestly I have no intention to at this point lol. Flight time is 5-7 minutes. This motor is awesome. I ordered the monsterjet to test 4S on my next scratch build. Plane weight is 21 oz full flying weight. Only issue is I have to be careful pulling up to hard cause the thrust is very hard on my wings even with reinforcement and kfm4 airfoils.

Thanks!
Well cheaper than a fuel pump.
I was flying her at half throttle and sometimes just 1/3 throttle trying to find her stall speed (I guess you noticed the wing rock) so as to test it and to extend the flight time. Still she cruised around just under 50 mph per RCSPEEDO @ 1/2 stick.
The Rafale's flying weight is 23 oz. The SMJv2 with a 6x4 puts out about 30 oz.
so that's a 1.3 thrust to weight ratio which ain't toooo bad.
I've used a 7x5 on this motor before but that's too big for the Rafale's prop-slot. So I will mount a 6x5 APC instead for the next flight. I used the SMJv2 with a 6x5.5 on my "5EZP" F-18E Super Hornet to great effect in 2012.
I may build an EDF version with a 70mm on 4S power. That's 40+oz. of thrust.
