Default Power recommendation on an Oldie Goldie

I recently had a flashback of one of my favorite planes and decided to go out and build another one.

The GWS Formosa 1.

I have not built a foamy in several years and don't remember power combos for this plane, since I no longer use geared, brushless motors.

So here is my question:

What performance should I expect out of the following power setup? AUW will probably fall around 18-19oz.

E-flite 450. E-flite 20A ESC. TP2100mah 3S1P lipo. APC 10x7E prop.

Will this setup be too heavy? Anyone have motocalc that can figure out estimated thrust and watts?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Nitroaddict:: The E-flite 450. E-flite 25-30A ESC. TP2100mah 3S1P lipo. APC 9/6 or 10x7E prop. ,A 25-30 ampESC the 30 will let you turn a deeper prop, The 20 to small for the 450 , As a old slimmer myself, I've found these new planes are take'in our sport out a whole new door, I Like It!! good luck , your bub, steve

Steve - I appreciate the help!

I have this setup in a MUS at the moment that was dumbthumbed into the ground the other day. It was only pulling 19A WOT on a 10x6 APC-E.

Is this setup acceptable for the Formosa? The MUS AUW was about 25oz. Quick lil thing, but didn't have unlim vert. Plenty of power for me though, so I figured putting it into the formosa would turn it into a bullet. I guess the big question would be = Bullet or Brick?

Yeah, but that's pushing it friend. A 20A ESC working 19A at WOT?? I would at least go with a 25-30A ESC just to keep it safe...one less thing you'll have to worry about. I usually always go 5A higher than the recommended ESC.

Fair enough. I think I also have a CC25 that would do the trick. It is currently in a Kyosho Illusion, but that is overkill.

NICE!! I've been looking at the Illusion. How does she fly!!?? How do you launch her and what would you say her stock speed is?

That is a nice ForMOOsa II !!

If that is the setup you have in that plane, then I assume the Formosa 1 will be a rocket.

Excellent plane! Sure is pricey though. She flys very well and suprisingly needs a bit of wind to take off and land into. You launch her by throwing like Tom Brady and then saying a little prayer! I am working on developing a bungee. It is the general consensus that stock flight speed is around 70mph.
