Question First Annual WattFlyer Fly-In (will you attend?)

This poll is to gauge the interest in a Wattflyer fly in. Please vote and comment on whether or not you think you would go if it gets set up for later this year, probably around late September or early October. I am trying to set this up but need to know if anyone will go to it. I would hate to get the LHSs to sponser it and then for nobody to show up.

I am trying to set it up at the Kansas State Fair Grounds in Hutchinson Kansas. We will have the use of a very large field and possibly a building for indoor flight as well. The field will be easy but the building will cost considerably more so I need to know "if you build it people will come"

Also, if anyone wants to help with setting this up let me know. Right now it's just me and my brother (n003lb) doing this so we could use the help.

Please vote yes only if you think you will attend this event. I need to know if enough people will attend to make this viable for the sponsers.

I wish I could, but I voted no as this would just be way to far to travel for me.

This probably should have been posted in the events section, but since this is for a WattFlyer event, I'm going to leave it here for a while because it will most likely be seen by more members where its at. I will sticky it at the top for now.

I wish. But (sigh) I live ten miles north of nowhere... I was forced to vote no. Not for lack of intrest, just being honest.

I posted here at Marcs request. The thinking is that not only will we get more response but also this is not a set event yet. If enough people are interested the I'll announce it in the events section.

Oh come on! It's not that far you should be able to make the drive easily. Just kidding.

Kansas is too far from Washinton, DC. Matter of fact. Washington, DC is too far from everywhere except Delaware, Philly, NJ or NY.

Sorry I had to vote NO.:o

I voted no too. I'd be willing to travel to KS for a day or two... IF YOU COULD GUARUNTEE GOOD WEATHER, which you can't. If I drove there & dragged the wife along, and burned two precious vacation days, and it was windy or rainy the whole time, that'd be a real kick in the nuts.

Sorry, but thanks for making the efforts!

Perhaps regional gatherings would meet with more success?

Now that is a concept worth investigating. We can have WATT FLYER regional meets then report back here about each event.

I know the weather can be a problem, you have to worry about that with any outdoor event. That's why I plan on getting a building we can use for indoor just in case. Also we generally don't get that bad of weather here in the fall.

I thought about regional get togethers but I'm affraid all we would get here are the 4 or 5 Kansans that have joined. I may still try for a local get together if this doesn't work out though.

Local and or regional events can be held at club sites (no cost). If ti's an indoor event, then an indoor county or school basketball court can be had for a reasonable contribution.

The place where on of our clubs meets (a gasser club) has two such indoor venues. They can be had for a few hours for under $100, so the local-regional event is still worth investigating.

Sorry to say that I will miss this one.
Class reunion and SEFF, along with some other traveling this year have about eaten my traveling monies up for the year.

Fortunately SEFF is a couple of hours away and we make the week out of it visiting with one of our school friends who lives in the area.

NY to KS is just too far. Taking planes on the plane would prove difficult. NEAT in September is a real hoot though. I would like to go to events within a few hours drive (Syracuse/Boston/Philly).

Cheers,

Bob

FUEL PRICES COME INTO PLAY. I can't aford gas for a long trip like that. This winter is putting a big hold on my rc flyin projects. I can't even go to my jet rally this summer because of Fuel Prices

Maybe a regional but the expense would be way to much at this time for most.

I voted yes, even though it's almost an hour and 45min drive!

People mentioned wind. Kansas is known to be windy. That may be a consideration for some. Check this out & scroll down to about the middle and look at the chart. http://www.city-data.com/city/Hutchinson-Kansas.html

BTW, that site has tons of cool information about lots of cities in the US.

Cool site Brad. Thanks for the link. It looks like around September will be a good time for it.

This isn't looking to promising. I need at least 20 or so people in order to make this event viable. If it doesn't work out anyone that is interested let me know and maybe we can do something on a smaller scale.

I met Len and alot of the guys with KC Flying Circuits a couple years ago at their first indoor fly in. Thanks for the suggestion. Are you a member of the KC Circuits?

Kansas:
In the middle of the U.S.A.
In the middle of the Nowhere
(no offense, just fact)

I'm willing to travel, but as others have said: 'not that far'.
Might be better to choose an area of the country (with large population within a couple hundred miles or less).
That makes it difficlut I know, as you must choose:
NE coastal area
SE coastal area
N central (east of Mississippi River)
Midwest (east of Mississippi River)
S central (east of Mississippi River)
NW coastal area
SW coastal area

Also, it should be a multi day event, with camping allowed. If we gotta travel, may as well make it worth the while. Ideally, a Fri., Sat. & Sun.
