ministeve, it's time to "roll your own" when you break something. Once I get it I can figure out the dimensions of wings and fuselage. You would be surprised what you can make out of the same packing foam as the plane. Wheels, cockpit, etc., not so much. I'm not too worried.

Thanks Kev. I don't think my wife is going to love that plane! She thinks I have too many planes right now. I will do my best to explain that it is no longer available and it is relatively inexpensive.

As long as you don't put in an ESC, servos, batteries or receiver.

Or, heaven forbid, change it over to brushless.

Tom, that is known around my house as a "deal breaker". I don't bring up such tertiary issues. They can be ordered one or two at a time and snuck into the garage and hidden in the workbench drawers.

I was gonna say... I didn't know there was a problem getting them... They've been instock at hobbyzone forever...
SK
Believe it or not, there are alot of on-line stores that still have old web pages advertising this model...the fact is, they DON'T have them available. They need to keep their inventory status up to date!! There's nothing more aggravating than ordering a plane on-line, just to receive an e-mail 2-3 days later informing you that it has been discontinued.

They sold well. I talked with John Redman (Horizon Hobby) at SEFF, and he said it was issues with the vendor who actually made them, and that they wouldn't be re-ordering. He mentioned that there was a possibility they could retool the molds and get another vendor to start manufacturering them later on, but he said it was a pretty slim shot.

One of the other Horizon guys said the E-Flite P-38 is probably going to be out of production sooner rather than later due to the same reasons - manufacturing agreements with vendors.

John said if I loved the P-47, though, that the new Sea Fury was an even better flyer all around. We'll see ... I have one on pre-order, but the Jug is SUCH a great plane.

I managed to pick up a new P-47 for $65 + tax at my LHS (HobbyTown). I talk with the owner there quite a bit anyway, but he'd had the plane for a couple of months without selling it and I told him it was being discontinued. He said he might make a deal on it if I wanted to take it off his hands. Came back a couple of weeks later and it was still there, so I asked him, "So, what kind of deal were you thinking?"

He looked at his price sheets, looked at the plane, said "Discontinued, eh? How about $65?"

"Scan it and bag it!" I said.

That's awesome PA!! When do you think you'll have her ready and in the air? I should get mine by Wednesday. I'm going with the simple Park 450, 25A ESC and a 3s 2200mah Li-po. Can't wait to get her up!! Good luck friend.

She'll sit in the box for quite a while, probably. I've already got an E-Flite P-47 (just running off the stock motor and 3S 2250mah lipo currently ... still hauls pretty good!). I just couldn't pass up on another one since I knew they'd be impossible to find. Now I've got that safety net in the back of my mind where I don't have to worry about busting a piece or crashing. Though when it's all said and done, I'll probably just build it and give it to Dad so we can do some formation flying.

It comes with a stock motor, or is there just one recommended??

It comes with a 480 brushed motor, gearbox and prop. It actually flys really nice with it and a 3S 2100 15C lipo.

Tom,

I forget, but the 480 takes a 3S without problems? I went straight to BL with mine (on someone's recommendation, I forget who.....)

Yep, the stock 480 brushed motor works fine with a 3S lipo. You just have to buy a brushed ESC instead of a brushless.

I've got a brand new one hanging in my shop ready to go w/a park 400 BL. Now I don't know if I want to fly it! Thats a bummer. I've only heard good things about it.

I may have already asked this, but how well do you think she will fly with a 450 brushless and a 3s 2200mah? The reason i ask is because I have a spare E-Flite 450 handy, as well as a 25A ESC.

Mike,

The owners manual lists the Park450 as one of the BL outrunners that work well with this plane.

Using the stick mount, you just cut 1" off the stick, and it mounts easy as pie.

Unhappy Good news turns to Bad

Well I just received an e-mail from Hobby Wholesale indicating that indeed they have no more E-Flite P-47s. I guess I won't have to sneak that plane past my wife after all! I am going to give Hobby Town a shot and I will post on that. Thanks to PerlAddict for the Horizon hobby information; nothing like going to the source to determine what's happening with the plane. Wish me luck everyone.
