Default Making the Fuselage

Hi Everyone I did a little more work on the Biplane today, I could have got more done, if i knew what i was Doing It took me about half the day, to figure out how i was going to brace the fuselage, 6mm Depron sure is flimsy when its about 6 feet long I bought some 8.5 mm CF tube for the wing, and some 5 mm CF tube to have around, I wanted to brace the areas, like where the wings go, and the motor, and the landing gear area, and stiffen up the length of the fuselage, Ok How do I do That, and Make it lite and strong, thats what took me half the day to try to figure out Ok here is what i did, I cut the 8.5 mm CF tube in the middle, i had 2 length of it, now i have 4 , Ok I put the 8.5 mm tube where the wing is going to be mounted at and the landing gear, about in the middle of the fuselage, then I inserted the 5mm CF tube into both ends on the 8.5 mm tube, so it goes towards the front and rear, and epoxied them in place, it worked great, but i ran out of 5mm CF tube, I need 2 more pieces to finish the bracing, the motor mount will be a piece of plywood, about 1/4" thick, I am looking for a long clear bottle, for the canopy, i need to go shopping tomorrow, so I will be looking at big Clear Bottles here are a few pics of what got done today, Take care, Chellie

Chellie
I hope that all that bracing is not necessary as I didn't put a bit in my 8 foot Puddle Monster. Seems to be very rigid.

Probably is better if you're not able to get the the casino that often if your luck is like mine.

Keep up the good work Chellie. I would try to encourage you to hurry, but I am the worlds slowest builder so I don't have any room to talk. I would rather make it look good than get it done fast. The pics below will give an idea of one reason I am so slow. I didn't have this problem when I was building one plane at a time.

Of course it would be nice to be able to do both like a lot of the builders on these threads.

Hi Everyone Yea, I found a canopy for my Bi Plane at tower hobbies, only $5.79 I cant make it for that I bought some more CF Tube to finish up the Fuselage with, and some trim tape, so Now i need to get back out in the Hobby Room and start getting the servos in the wings, I like Larrys way of melting the foam with a soldering iron for a channel, thats what i need to run the servo wires through the wing with, Ok, Back to work, Take care, Chellie

Hi Instigator I am trying to keep the airframe under 80oz with out electronics or power system, the wings are about 20 oz each so there is 40oz already, i figure the fuselage and elevator and rudder to be another 40 oz, maybe 6+ lbs with everything installed, take care, Chellie

That's the DaJet with EDF. It is a design by Dalton of DaDesigns. Three of us prototyped one and none of then can fly. I am the only one that put landing gear on. I have put a set of flaps on the forward wing now, but haven't tested it yet. I have to catch up with a test pilot since I can't fly that well. On the last test the plane wouldn't WOG. On one of the runs down the runway it caught a gust of wind and went straight up and then straight down on her nose. Seemed to have enough speed and the thrust to weight is about 1 to 1. If you would like a challenge I'll send you the plans and you can maybe figure out why it won't fly. Hope you take this challenge, several of us would like to see this plane fly.

It Looks Like the front wing is Cancelling the lift to the second wing, Dirty Air Flow over the top of the rear wing, if you made the front wing a v configuration, like a rudder, and made the rear wing bigger, it may very well fly, just my 2 cents worth, Take care, Chellie

Actually Glen I live on the desert. There are some lakes around though. Most flights will most likely be on dry land and no I won't be hand launching it. It will have removable landing gear.

Please do stop by now and then... I'm pretty slow and have several builds going, but will post what ever progress I make. I am working on small parts right now tail feathers and cowling (4 of them) etc.

Thanks for the input Chellie. That was my thoughts at first also... I thought maybe if I put the set of flaps on the forward wing I could control the effect of the upper forward wing on the lower wing. On the other hand one of the other guys greatly reduced the size of the forward wing and still no dice. I also think the wing incidence might be some of the problem. I also though about a KF airfoil. Also one might think of it as a very large canard. If the flaps don't work then it will take someone much smarter than me.

I need to sign off now and get to bed.

I could not see any wing incidence in the plane by the pictures, but yea, I make all of my planes with 0 wing incidence, and if it needs it, add it later, so far, all of my planes fly great with 0 incidence, just my 2 cents worth, Take care, Chellie
