AXi 2808/24 too much power for Formosa?
#1

I had a Formosa a couple of years ago and never really got too many flights on it before THIS happened.
Anyhow, I finally got around to getting me a NIB 'Mosa and don't really have too many motors sitting around. Since I'm on a fairly tight budget I want to use what I have instead of buying anything.
So, knowing how the old 'Mosa flew on a ~100W outrunner is the 2808 overkill? I also have a new E-Flite Park 400-920 outrunner that could go in the 'Mosa.
I'd be running a 3S 1700 to 2200 pack.
Input??

If I remember correctly, I have an AXI 2808 in my Alfa 190 with a 9x7 GWS HD prop. Flys well, but by no means overpowered. Not really enough to be called 3D. Will sustain vertical climb for a while, but not indefinitely. About the same power as a short can 370-4100 on a GWS-C box.

You can never have enough Power
That motor will work fine, like Dr kiwi said, it can be toned down, with a smaller prop, or you can use a 2 cell lipo to tone it down with, Take care, Chellie

Some years ago I did assemble a Formosa for a review. I powered it with an AXI 2808/20, used 3S LiPo. Stepped down from initial 9x6 APC-E propeller to an APC 8x4E. Suitable power with the smaller propeller, but a lot of fun with the 9x6
On 8x4 the plane felt better to fly IMHO. Weight; no problem.
Just play with smaller propellers if you get too much power.

For this plane I would use the E-Flight 400.Mine is only one pound with a Turnigy 2830-1050kv with a 9x6 electric prop and it takes of in ten feet but I am not using a 2200mah battery.I use a 1000mah battery.Do you use one or two servos on the wing.
