AMA Youth or Adult membership for Son

AMA Youth or Adult membership for Son
My son will be 18 in Aug 2011 and from what I can tell there is insignificant cost different between getting him a youth membership ($1) or additional family adult membership ($30). I don't care about the magazine. Are there any significant differences/benefits of having the adult membership? Thanks.

The youth $1 membership is non voting.
Other than that and the magazine they have the same full access and benefits as a primary member. My son is now 15 and been a youth member since the age of 9
