Default Im new!

Hey guys wanted to say hello to you all! I am brand new to the RC world. I got a blade CX2 for x-mas after i have played with the little toy helli's out there. I quickly learned that the Cx2 is not a toy!

I am mainly into RC heli's right now but would also like to try rc planes.

I will see you all around the forums!

I have no intention of giving up on IC. I'm just adding another facet to the hobby. Altough I did dig out some old plans for a Fan Trainer from RCM way back in 1990. It was designed around a TD .049. It just begs for an electric conversion. First up though are two IC planes, a 20% Zlin 526 and refeb of my CAP 232.

Electric IS nice though. Hopefully I'll get my head wrapped around all the terminology sooner rather than later.

It's nice to be here

Thumbs up Coreman from Massachusetts wandering in

Been on the other forums for a while and keep seeing this one pop up in discussions so I figured i would wander over here and see what was up. I've been doing a lot more electric stuff the last few years, especially over the winter months. I run RA Cores and we've been doing a lot of electric development lately and been to the NEAT Fair the last two years as a vendor. I'm planning on being low key but answering any questions that come up on my stuff.

Jim

Default Just joined.

Hi. I'm pretty new to RC. I'm putting together a Walker Flyer (designed by Robelen). Purchased the plans from Air Age Store. I was thinking about using OS film for the wing covering on this along with coil actuators. Something else I've been toying with is using a set of thin film solar cells on the wings to supply power. One cell delivers 3 volts with just indoor lighting. Has anyone done anything similar? I'm not finding any current threads on this type of project?

Thanks
Frank

Welcome to WF Frank, there's been some talk about solar power planes but I think the problem at the time was weight. Here's just a couple of the threads.

Frank, I saw a video a few years ago, where somone used solor film on an indoor rc plane. They used some kind of an inferred beam pointed at the plane to power it. I think they were tring to set a record for the longest flight by an rc plane. It would fly forever, as long as the beam was pointed at the cell, or until somthing wore out, or broke.

Thanks Don. I saw these threads, but it looks like interest fell off on them a year or two ago and had wondered if anyone had done something since. I saw that weight was a problem in the threads but it looks like some were using the older silicon chip technology. Also, I think since these threads were active, the price of parts (solar cells, micro receivers, actuators) has gone done and the technology has improved a little. Maybe I should start a new thread?

Thanks again
Frank

Surfer Dude:
Thanks. I'll give a look for the video. Must have been one heck of an infrared gun.

Don:

I'm really new to this format. I don't understand what you mean and can't see where to start a thread. Can you direct me to the instructions?
Thanks

Well, I guess I should post to this thread too, since I have only been around a month or so.

First, a little about my background. I was in the hobby around '94 or '95. I belonged to a club in metro Atlanta GA. About the time I got my first trainer built, the club moved to a field about 25 miles away. Since I was a total newcomer to RC flying, a club member flew my plane for me and tested it. I then flew one time - with assistance - before deciding that the distance was too far to go on a regular basis. I sold all of my gear and left the hobby.

I have recently had 2 friends mention getting back into RC flying and that has gotten me interested again. It's a whole new world with 2.4 GHz radios and electric motors. The only thing I have purchased so far is a Phoenix simulator and the Spektrum DX5e radio that it comes with.

I have contacted a local club to get information on them. Hopefully this will work out and be my new field.

If you choose any forum here, look for "Threads In Forum" at the upper left and right above that is the button. There is another at the bottom of the list as well.

Hey everyone, brand new to the RC scene. I have purchased some Hobbyzone Supercubs and Parkzone Spitfires off Ebay from HobbeeMart. They all showed as having minor electronic issues and slight damage. I have manage to put together a couple of complete planes. Only got out once flying last summer but look forward to more this summer. i would appreciate any hints and tips as my first day was a bit of a disaster. looking forward to learning, my dad was a nitro flyer and at 57 years old I'm ready to take on this hobby
