Nigel, my keyring arrived. I tested it in my living room and immediately knew it was going to be loud. Each devise is very light. hitt the button twice on each device and they bind together.

when doing this they beep so softly i thought,"bummer.what a rip-off. but then i used the one to find the other and a soft beeping start to get louder and louder to the point my wife said"HONEY! shut that off!". The dogs all freacked out and I sat there in awe at how loud it was.

I will post a video later here and hope to get a range test down the road. This tag will velcro perfectly on any lipo battery and then fasten to the quads. If the range really is 300ft. we will have a great lil locate.

Fitted it ...

Yes its 2G ... I went into local sim shop and asked them ... they threw a $2 PAYG card on counter and said ... We really do not know if it will work - but for $2 ? Worth a try !! ...

Well I registered the card in a phone - rec'd message saying it had 10mins credit ...

Put it in the Alarm unit .... did the 000 .... sms back to my phone saying accepted ... did the DW bit and it came back with a map showing location !

Magic ...

After my buddy lost his drone in a flyaway last weekend I got to thinking that maybe there have been some developments in this field recently so I started searching
I looked at many many trackers but finally settled on this one for my drone. I live in dense bush next to a State Forest and if my drone goes down in there, or, anywhere on my own property, it would be goodbye. Price was good and it seems Banggood now has a warehouse in Oz so only a few days delivery time via Oz Post. Couple of reviews from guys using them on model aircraft.

One of the limitations of many of the 'car based' trackers - they use magnetic mounting ...

Its ok on a normal model - but on a Phantom or other with compass - it can cause serious errors.

A unit that seems to be gaining in popularity - and Thingiverse has 3D mounts for printing ... the RV-16 tracker units ... very small and without magnetic mount.

I don't think this one has a magnet Nigel. If it has I will remove it. That one you mention goes through their own server whereas this one direct links to Google earth. And the RF V-16 costs twice as much. This one also comes with 2 batteries. Anyway I guess I will soon find out.

I thought the RF-16 was simply via SIM card just same ...

Have to check that out again ...

I have a GSM tracker but to be honest - hardly ever use it now.

It is an excellent tracker but in the review on one website a fellow was complaining that it went through their servers rather than direct to google earth.

I think this shows the 16 to be quite good ...

OH ... forgot - yes it does use a server but as I understand it - that's only for archiving tracks ... the actual lost model function is direct phone to unit communication without need for server.

It says, unbranded generic? Must be a copy. Not that it's a problem, but he doesn't ship to Australia anyway.

Yes I looked at heaps of them. I bought this one.

My quads and planes can easily carry it.

That is the conclusion I came to. Quads can travel large distances on a flyaway. Bluetooth would never find them. OK for close in FPV racing in wooded areas perhaps.

Received the Tracker today. It comes with 2 x battery covers. 1 x has magnets and the other doesn't. Easy slip-on change-over.
2 x batteries and charger. USB cable but specifically for the Tracker.
Results in the future...

The Tracker is no good to me. It works on a 2G network which I thought still existed but it appears not. We only have 3,4 and 5G soon. I thought it would be backwards compatible and maybe it is but I get no response.
The sim won't go to waste . It has been in a box for over a year now anyway. I have a spare Samsung phone so may as well use it. So now I have 3 mobile phones all working
Just as well the 'fences' work for my Quad.

EDIT
Well I got caught. All 2G networks in Oz were shut down last year. Vodaphone, Optus, Telsatra etc etc
Bit surprised Banggood has the nerve to sell 2G items from their Warehouse in this country that will not work. ???

Well, I wrote to Banggood and asked them why they sell a product that can't be used in Australia. They wanted photos and videos of course. LOL I said if they could suggest ways of taking videos and photos of a network that doesn't exist then I would gladly oblige.
Meantime I wrote it off, BUT, today I got an email telling me that they are providing a full refund to me.
Well done Banggood. Now I will look for a 3 - 4 G Tracker armed with my new found knowledge.
I may not need a tracker now anyway. I have my Geofence working well...

Yep - 2G .... my tracker was 2G ... but luckily Latvia Networks still compatible with 2G ... even though we are already 4G and they say are readying for next generation !

As said though - I stopped using my Tracker ... in fact couldn't find it other day when looking.

I am waiting the new one to arrive which says its later G compatible.

Well it seems that after a lot of research, that there is only one worth buying. It also does not require a cellular network or phone or GPS.
It is expensive but it works and I have to save my pennies for a bit.
Marco Polo . On back Order at present but available elsewhere.

Plenty of videos on the Tube.
