I've been saving some MAD money and finally decided to break open the piggy bank yesterday. I just ordered a 1650 2 cell ans a 2000 3 cell from commonsenserc so that should take care of my immediate battery needs. I ordered quite a few things from Jeff at HeadsupRC also and he threw in free shipping after I emailed him with an enquiry about the ESC he carries. I wound up buying the 30 Amp from him and quite a few servos and other misc things. I then called Jay at GITech and purchased a 2408-21 with the propsaver mod built in. I have a few other things from BPHobbies on the way. I should have a good range of motors and electronics now to play with. I wish batteries were as cheap as the rest of the electronics!

I will personally QC and hand select one for you! I'll make sure you GIT one with the round magnets and I will send you that Alluminum Heat Sink Stick Mount you asked about for free as well.
Let me know if you have any more

How much up do you have on your elevons? Everyone keeps mentioning a couple of clicks up and then there is Doyles thread that talks of needing up. One more thing is, 3/8 up and down is good for travel right?
#157

Is that total travel 3/4" servo end to end, measured at the elevon's edge? If it is, It too small. If you have flying eperience try 2" up and down - 4" total . Flying wings ,usual, need a slight up elevator built in, it's called reflex. That whats ment by a couple of clicks of up trim on the transmitter this give a needed slight up elevator.
#158

2" travel sounds like a lot. I can fly 4 ch and do simple aerobatics no problem. If I can just get past the panic mode when something goes wrong I would consider myself a decent pilot.
:o
Don't know if I would want wild control throw for the maiden, I'm already a little nervous.:p

Well, this weekend I took the delta that I built and literally took it apart, soaked it, took the "skin" off, and put it back together. The complete delta w/o electronics now weighs 1.9 oz. (with CF reinforcing) Very big difference from the 5 oz. w/ the skin on! I now have a GWS 350 B-gear motor and the 8x6 prop reccomended by Kosh that I plan on using with a 2S 1650 mAh LiPo. The CG already "feels" different than my first attempt and it does a nice down sloping free guide. I've really gotten alot out of this piece of foam. Now, back to work.

With the 350 B geared motor {Same as the Warbirds} you should be looking at speeds around 45 to 50mph with only a 9 amp power draw at full. Fly it for 5 minutes the first time and check your motor temp, If it too hot to touch let it cool a few and toss it back up. I bet it will fly at 1/3 throttle easy so best of luck on your maiden.

Hope I can handle it! I also have a 2408-21 brushless on the way. I might swap it out on the delta or just build something else for it, not sure. How would one of thos Esskay 400XT brushless motors work on these deltas? They are on sale for $17.90 at Hobby-Lobby and seem like a good buy. Might work great on a slow stick too.

My frustrations with this delta continue. I rebuilt the entire thing, had the suggested motor and prop, started CG at 6" from the nose, and followed all suggestions on launch. It moves really fast but unfortunately only 10 feet and straight into the ground (AGAIN). Another broken prop. I must be doing something wrong that I just can't get right. I think I've got to step back from this one for awhile.

Hi Gary

ps you might not have enough thrust at launch if you are using a brush motor, thats the only thing that I can think of why its nose diving on you, moving the CG back with a brush motor may help. with the brushless motor, you can just about hover with it, and it should just take off on you.

Hi Gary
I was just thinking, what could you be doing different than me on launch, then when you said it was only going 10 feet then nose diving, I think I figured it out, I give my delta a hard toss, and with out the motor on, it will coast about 25 to 30 feet, I think you might be giving it a gental toss, not allowing it to gain air speed right away, try giving it a hard toss, pointed up about 15 to 20 degrees from level. hope that helps, Chellie

FWIW Gary I built an STC and was having flying problems with it. Didn't want to glide and ballooned under WOT. I decided to do the glide test and after about 30 minutes of tweakin' it she flew great. I took the prop off and gave it a good toss into the wind. At first it was falling to one side and nosing in. After several adjustments it would glide out 20' or so and gently touch down on it's gear.
Just an idea.

I'm on delta 2 now I took the first one out to field for glide testing
started with the cg at 5.5 instant nose dive then about 7.5 it started to glide at 8 it was doing real well so now I have a starting point for the new build
Clear is going on now then I'll glue and rig it and the dreaded maiden
hopfully with the new cg I can have better luck

Mine's ready for maiden. Went with what I had on hand. GWS350C with the C gear swinging a 10x4.5 that came with my YardStik. It gave good performance on it and my STC so it should work. I have a 1000mAh 7.4 Electric Power lipo with a GWS esc.

Here's a pic, just in case
. After watching the video in the club forum of Kosh flying his I don't know if I can fly it or not. Hopefully he had them set up to do this. If my roll rate is going to be anything close to that I'm in trouble
.

Hand launch was done correctly and at full throttle, slight up on the controls. Lateral balance is good. It MUST be CG. I have to do some repairs before I do some glide testing. I have several other projects I want to get to so I may just stop work on this and step back from it for a few days. Surprising how you can solve a problem by getting away from it for awhile and then coming back to it later. It's the "why didn't I see that before?" method. Oh well.
